2024 Chevy Suburban: New Chevrolet Suburban Full-Size SUV Review

Posted on

2024 Chevy Suburban has not been complacent in the 2020s. It follows the mid-engine Corvette with the Z06 in a short time, and just last week announced a bunch of new models, hybrid and non, plus future EV variants.

The story is similar to the Bowtie family of full-size carriers, as this camouflaged Suburban prototype attests to.

When we saw this donkey lurking, three possibilities came to our minds. We’ll go through them, from the smallest to the most likely.

Chevrolet brings back the Suburban HD. GM’s vice president of global product programs, Tim Herrick, has hinted that an upgrade to the ‘Burb’ is being considered.

In October 2020, he suggested that the existing X-gen architecture could easily accommodate towing-focused heavy-duty variants.

However, he stopped short of confirming that such a product was in fact on Chevrolet’s development schedule, and the only supporting evidence in this spy shot is an argument out of nothing: Those glamorous High Country wheels could hide the eight-lug hub that usually denotes Chevy’s toughest carriers.

Using an existing set of wheels that could hide such a change, instead of coating the new wheels, which would draw our attention to the hub, would indeed be a sneaky move from Chevy. Indictment? We hope, but do not expect that this is an HD model.

  • Body style: SUV
  • Bore: 3.3 to 4.1″
  • Cargo volume: 41.5 ft, 144.7 ft³ with seat area
  • Compression ratio: 11 to 15
  • Dimensions: 226″ L x 81″ W x 76″ H
  • Engine cylinder configuration: V engine, Straight engine

This is the highest trim level of the new range that will be placed above the High Country. Just two days ago, GM announced the Denali Ultimate trim for the Yukon to enhance the Denali model, which is traditionally the most luxurious spec in all of GMC’s products.

This Denali Yukon Ultimatized follows Sierra’s steps in wooing deep-pocketed customers who love their big, American luxuries, served up a stair frame with plenty of luxury relief.

The potential benefits of the higher-zoot Suburban can’t be lost on the Chevrolet, whose top-spec ‘Burb breaks the boundaries of the Yukon’s price area.

Why not just hand over the $70K price bracket to GMC? The suburbs appeal to the stealth-wealth crowd, those who prefer the blue-collar associations of the Bowtie to the luxury-focused GMC moniker.

2024 Chevy Suburban Refresh

The Chevrolet Suburban 2024 represents the fourth model year of the twelfth-generation, all-new full-size SUV for 2021. As such, the Chevy Suburban 2024 is expected to see a mid-cycle refresh for the 2024 model year.

In particular, it is possible that an all-new, high-performance variant could hit the market for the 2023 model year, and will sport a supercharged 6.2L LT4 V8 engine.

2024 Chevy Suburban Interior

Our basis for the theory of this new trim level: Interior shots were obtained from this prototype, which shows a new steering wheel and a larger screen with a lower hood above the instrument panel.

The Suburban is prominently absent from the 2022 model year vehicle list to offer the Super Cruise, GM’s hands-free driver assistance system. (The addition of the Super Cruise is a hallmark of the recently announced Yukon Denali Ultimate.)

The lack of instrument cluster protrusion also suggests the Suburban is taking the big screen page from the Escalade. Probability of this new range-topping trim? We will go with the media.

2024 Chevy Suburban Exterior

The most likely out for the new wheels and bigger screen is that Chevy is leaving the High Country as, ah, the highest-altitude trim and just giving the 2024 Suburban some fancy updates.

While the two-tiered headlights on the front end of the camo are very similar to the Silverado HD, the resemblance is likely only aesthetic.

The light touch update (rather than the re-introduction of the HD ‘Burb) would be entirely appropriate for the 2024 Suburban given the significant mechanical changes that Chevrolet made for the thirteenth generation, which debuted just three years ago.

The 2021 model not only rides on a 4.1-inch longer wheelbase than its predecessor but ditches a sturdy rear axle for multi-link independent setups.

Both changes greatly increase cabin space, and the latter also enhances the ride—especially when paired with the optional air suspension. There aren’t many issues to fix on the 13th generation Suburban, and it’s not showing its age yet.

2024 Chevy Suburban EV

The great American automakers are dead-set to be part of the electric revolution. And while most of the comments we’ve read criticized the 2024 Silverado EV, we think it’s a bigger deal than the Ford F-150.

After all, isn’t Cybertruck’s sales success due to its different appearance?

After all, it was only natural for Ford and Chevy to start their (real) EV revolution with trucks. They are the most popular vehicles in America and make huge profits. And OH BOY will they profit from the $105,000 EV Silverado?

That’s clearly just the beginning. General Motors is all about using the platform over and over again. With the regular fuel-powered Silverado, they used it in a number of other vehicles, all made at the same factory.

This includes GMC trucks and a large number of SUVs. Cadillac is already in EV action; so does the brand new Hummer.

So it’s only a matter of months before the Chevy Suburban EV is shown. Using the same system as the Silverado trucks will allow them to reduce costs and offer a competitive product. We wouldn’t be surprised if it looked similar too.

A preview of all that goodness is this series of colorful renderings by Middle East Instagram page c_zr1. They specialized in GM goodness and found a way to match the body of the Silverado EV pickup with the look of the SUV.

Conceptually, the rendering is very simple. But clean execution makes the 2024 Suburban EV look like a real vehicle, even if it’s not. Since this is a family SUV and not one of the best-selling and longest-running pickups, it would have been better received.

There is a clear difference, yes. The shape of the hood is not like a regular SUV, and the narrow headlights make this model futuristic. Don’t forget that the Suburban can technically be called the first SUV. We’re talking about a lineage dating back to 1935 though that’s more of a chariot for the rough roads.

However, the rest of the rendering is boxy and conventional but wrapped in sharp-looking design details. This stands in stark contrast to the Tesla Model X and its unconventional and sometimes finicky “eagle door.”

Next Generation Chevy Suburban RST

Due to its proposed price and capabilities, some might argue that Chevy’s 2024 Silverado EV just marks the end of GM’s incredible internal combustion engine pickup truck. But what about SUVs?

2024 Chevy Suburban

Capable of towing up to 10,000 pounds (4,536 kg) or driving up to 400 miles (644 km) on a single charge. Also, it’s cheaper than the entry price point of the Ford F-150 Lightning. That’s the GM 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV in a nutshell.

So, do we really need to wonder why automotive virtual artists around the world have set the crosshairs? Let’s see what the CGI experts behind kdesigning and c_zr1 have to offer. In full size, RST SUV, twist.

They both knew the Silverado EV was going to be a hot commodity, as even the $107k RST First Edition special trim sold out in just 12 minutes after the order book opened. And they may want to support both of its new design cues, as well as the obvious hype surrounding it.

So, they came up with the cool decision to try and imagine the possible new look of Chevrolet’s Suburban, while Kleber Silva (kdesignag Brasil) also decided to pay a visit to the Tahoe company. There is one thing that is interesting.

Pixel Master did not specify whether its imaginary Tahoe/Suburban RST version that uses Silverado EV styling cues for future refreshes will remain ICE or also turn into a zero-emissions model.

Meanwhile, the CGI expert tucked away behind the Arabic-language c_zr1 account is more ferocious, leaning toward a fully electric Chevy Suburban E transformation.

Frankly, if GM decided to make its Tahoe and Suburban SUVs look a little more like the 2024 Silverado EV, also turning them into sustainable models would only make sense. Even in terms of design.

Unfortunately, beauty is always in the eye of the beholder. So, how do you feel about the possibility of the Silverado, Tahoe, and Suburban family using similar styling cues, though not necessarily the Ultium powertrain?

New Chevy Suburban Engine 2024
