It’s not surprising that consumers would choose a crossover over this uninspiring four-door sedan, which is but a faint shadow of its former self.
To address this issue, my design study pays tribute to the 1964 Impala 4-door hardtop, which boasted frameless windows and clean body lines, while also incorporating features from the more curvaceous 1967 model. To bring the Impala into the modern age, Chevrolet’s street-inspired design language has been employed, borrowing elements from the Camaro and Corvette to create the metalwork.
The Impala’s frontal styling includes a shark-nosed, egg-crate grille, a muscular hood, and squared-off fenders. A diagonal black switchblade-like panel flows from the hood down into the door sills, hiding brake ducts. The A and C-pillars are blacked-out, giving the appearance of a floating roof. The side sculpting is highlighted by aggressive rear haunches and lower door scallops, lending visual dynamism to the design.

General Motors boasts an impressive collection of potent engines, and this design study pays homage to Impala’s V8 legacy while also acknowledging the company’s shift toward electrification. To begin with, the vehicle could be outfitted with a reliable 3.6-liter V6 engine, which can produce 320 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque.
Following that, the car could also feature the remarkable 6.2-liter LT2 V8 engine found in the C8 Corvette, capable of generating a maximum of 495 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. The engine’s power would be transferred to the rear wheels by means of an 8-speed Tremec dual-clutch gearbox.
GM’s CEO, Mary Barra, has mentioned the company’s goal of transitioning to an all-electric lineup, and including electric components in the Impala could rescue the large sedan.
An electric powertrain comprising a high-performance dual-motor system, a 100 kWh battery pack, and a range of approximately 380 miles (over 610 km) could position it as a rival to the Tesla Model S and attract customers who are interested in electric vehicles.
