Chevrolet offers our first official look at next year’s Silverado HD pickup ahead of the truck’s full debut in February 2019. The heavy-handed shower will go on sale in the middle of next year. The Silverado HD 2020 has a flashy, potentially even polarizing look. The Bowtie says the roof is the only part shared with the less harsh Silverado 1500. A massive grid now dominates the front end, and there’s no idea which company makes this machine because “Chevrolet ” appears in the holes in the bar that straddles the center of the grids. The chiseled hood features a subtle chrome-trimmed shovel. At the back, a step integrates into the rear bumper to make it easier to access the bed.
We set out to make a statement with the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado and wanted to visually capture the truck’s power and performance, said Brian Izard, the pickup’s leading exterior designer. “The result is a truck that looks like a piece of heavy machinery with modern, chiseled surfaces and customer-oriented details. Chevrolet doesn’t provide photos of the interior, but spy photos offer a glimpse inside. The center pile has an infotainment display at the top and huge HVAC vents next to it. The Bowtie also points out that there are an extra three inches of legroom in the second row of crew cabin models, making bigger people in the back more comfortable.
The 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 HD will be available with a sought-after drive area. There will be a new gasoline engine with direct injection, but Chevy won’t give any further details on that yet. In addition, the existing Duramax turbodiesel V8 gets a new 10-speed automatic transmission. The upgrades will provide “significant increases in towing and payload capability, ” after the bowtie.
When Silverado HD debuts in February 2019, it will be the most powerful and advanced Silverado HD ever. It will also be the third brand new Chevrolet model in just 18 months – designed for different customers.

“We know that the needs and priorities of heavy-duty customers are different from those of light or medium-sized customers,” said Jaclyn McQuaid, chief engineer of Silverado HD. “As such, we have built a custom-made truck for them that has more. The differentiation from ever-light models offers advanced towing technologies to improve tug buoyancy and includes new features such as the built-in Bedstep, which facilitates access to the bed by giving a trailer with a tractor. “
Built at the Flint Assembly plant in Flint, Mich., the new Silverado HD design has a bold, sculptural shape that follows its extended, heavy function and distinguishes it from the lightweight Silverado. In fact, the 2020 Outer only shares the roof with its Silverado 1500 stablemate — every other piece of sheet metal exclusively for Silverado HD.
“We set out to make a statement with the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 HD and wanted to visually capture the power and performance of the truck,” said Brian Izard, senior exterior for Silverado HD. “The result is a truck that looks like a piece of heavy machinery with modern, chiseled surfaces and customer-oriented details. “
The interior enjoys similar architectural changes in the brand-new Silverado 1500, including another 3 square feet for the cabin crew models and a larger, more comfortable seat.
As part of the 2020 bonnet, Silverado HD has a choice of two new propulsion engines: A completely new gasoline engine with direct injection, which is paired to a six-speed transmission, or the Duramax Turbo diesel V-8, the 910 lb-ft torque through a completely new, Allison delivers 10-speed engine power. Transfer. Silverado HD 2020 will also feature a completely new customer-focused trailering technology, significant increases in towing and payload capabilities, and a variety of technologies and features designed specifically for truck customers.
GM’s focus on understanding truck customers has helped build the most successful truck franchise in the industry over the past four years. GM has been the best-selling truck maker for four years since the introduction of the industry’s first three-truck strategy with midsize, full-size light and heavy-duty vehicles in 2014. The company sold more than 600,000 pickups than the nearest manufacturer from 2014 to the first three quarters of 2018.
TThe momentum continues with the launch of the new Colorado ZR2 Bison, the all-new Silverado 1500, the all-new Silverado Medium duty truck and now the brand new 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 HD models. The 2020-Silverado HD goes on sale in mid-2019, stay up to date for more details about the all-new Silver ado HD.
As with GMC’s latest mechanically identical Sierra HD pickups, the Silverado HD in its base form motivates itself through a new 6.6-liter small block V-8 with a cast-iron block with aluminum heads, a gasoline direct injection, a 10.8:1 Compression ratio and a forged steel crankshaft. The power is 401bhp and torque of 464 lb-ft — a significant increase of 41 and 84 from the previous 6.0-liter petrol V-8—with switching tasks performed by GM’s familiar six-speed automatic transmission 6L90.
The optional engine is the 6.6-liter Turbo-diesel-445 horsepower and 910 lb-ft – but now it’s covered with a 10-speed version of the Allison automatic box with the previous six-junction. Additional speeds allowed GM engineers to reduce the engine’s HD ratio from 3.73: 1 to 3.42-1 to reduce engine speed to a quieter ride when driving.
Although Duramax is not enough for the available 1000 hp Ram HD, the 10-speed, coupled with stronger drive components, allows Silverado HDs to use their full range at the first speed, unlike previous models, oil torque outputs. Myriad upgrades include larger single discs and anesthetized shafts with giant 11.5-inch gearboxes in 2500HD models and full 12 inches at 3500HD.
The Duramax also gets an after-run feature that automatically keeps the engine running for up to 15 minutes after switching off to help with cooling after hard use, as well as an available factory-integrated power acceptance unit to start starting Screwdrivers such as snowplows. Other updates include a new active two-speed knee drive that finally brings an automatic all-wheel drive feature for GM’s large trucks (hiring was previously limited to the 1500 models); A misplaced, flush mounted socket in the front bumper for engine block heating (available as standard with diesel and on gas V-8); And a shifted diesel exhaust tank (DEF) between the frame rates that includes a filling spout behind the fuel door and a DEF track in the instrument cluster.

The latest 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 HD, located in its half-tonne sibling and dressed in almost entirely unique sheet metal, is distinctive — for better or worse. Subtle it is not, and like its Silverado 1500 brothers, the HD has multiple faces depending on the model: The Basis-Mam Truck has a black grill treatment with a powerful CHEVROLET bar over the snout; The new Custom model makes the look in body color; The LT and the LTZ have a similar but chrome-plated stomach; And the high-tier high country gets a unique chrome face with a gold bow tie and horizontal lattice slats. In total, there are 22 driver’s cab, bed, chassis and drivetrain combinations.
Wheel sizes range from 17 to 20 inches, depending on the configuration. And as with the new Halton Silverados, HD has grown significantly, with crew cab models with the standard box ride on a 5.2-inch longer wheelbase (158.9 inches) and a long distance of 10.4 inches longer and 1.4 inches wider.

The interiors of HD are only new if you don’t look into the latest Silverado 1500. It’s a spacious and highly functional environment, though the ho-hum materials and design couldn’t help the Chevy overcome its final surface in our recent comparison test of half-tone models. Chevrolet has yet to release prices for the new HD, but we expect MSRPs to stick closely to those of the 2019 models, which range from $39.095 for a rear wheel drive, a double cabin 2500HD with a gas V-8 to over $70K for loaded All-wheel diesel models.
The Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD will be officially launched in Chicago and will be produced exclusively at Flint, Michigan, the oldest ever-operating manufacturing site. Traditions begin this summer.
