2025 Chevy Silverado 1500: America’s second-most popular vehicle in 2023, has long been a companion to the Ford F-150, the best-selling vehicle in the U.S. for decades. It remains what it has always been: a rugged full-size pickup truck ready to work wherever needed, whether on a construction site, a warehouse, or a farm.
Updates (August 4, 2025): We’ve updated the 2025 Chevy Silverado 1500 with the latest interior and technology upgrades. While it offers great comfort and value, it still falls short of being a top pick. Price range: $42,700 – $70,000 MSRP.
This vehicle can also tow a boat, trailer, or other vehicle as a practical family hauler. Or it can be all of the above. Whatever the purpose, you’ll find a variety of engines, including a turbocharged four-cylinder, one of two V-8s, or the efficient Duramax diesel engine.
The 2025 Silverado is an actual pickup truck, with a sometimes rough ride. However, its larger V-8 engine is powerful and remarkably refined. Step inside, and you’ll find a cabin that offers a range of luxuries, from simple to luxurious.
However, it doesn’t have the same over-the-top luxury as the Ram 1500 in its higher trims. For those who spend most of their time exploring mud and dirt, there’s the Silverado 1500 ZR2, reviewed separately, and for those who don’t like gasoline, there’s the electric Silverado EV.
2025 Silverado 1500 Reviews
The 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is a full-size truck that can seat up to six people. Available in regular, extended, and crew-cab body styles, it can have a bed measuring 8, 6.5, or 5 feet 10 inches. This truck is perfect for drivers who want a versatile truck with impressive towing capabilities.

Buyers have four engine options. The standard engine is a 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 310 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque. The available six-cylinder turbodiesel engine produces 305 hp, and the 5.3-liter V8 produces 355 hp.
The top-of-the-line engine is a 6.2-liter V8 with 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. Rear-wheel drive (RWD) is standard, and all-wheel drive (4WD) is also available. The standard engine uses an 8-speed automatic transmission, while other engines use a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Chevy’s Silverado 1500 is capable of handling any towing. It can tow up to 13,300 pounds (about 6,400 kg) with either the available diesel engine or the 6.2-liter V8. This truck’s wide selection of engines makes it easy to find the right powertrain.
Silverado 1500 buyers can choose from a variety of trims. The sleek, performance Work Truck is aimed at buyers prioritizing function over form. This range also includes the off-road-friendly ZR2 and the luxurious High Country trims.
There are also a few drawbacks worth noting: Cabin quality on lower trims is less than satisfactory, and while the Silverado’s ride quality is pleasant enough, other trucks in its class have smoother handling.
2025 Chevy Silverado 1500
The 2025 Chevy Silverado 1500 full-size pickup truck sits between the smaller mid-size Colorado and the more formidable, more rugged heavy-duty Silverado lineup.
The electric Silverado EV is also available and will be reviewed separately. The Silverado 1500 has various trim levels and engine options to appeal to every truck buyer and budget, from standard work vehicles to off-road models and high-end luxury trims. This truck class is highly competitive, so check out our Expert Ratings to see how the Silverado 1500 stacks up against its competitors.
The Silverado 1500 has received praise for its use of technology. The infotainment system has a large 13.4-inch touchscreen display, featuring easy-to-read graphics and quick response to user input. On the LT trim and higher, drivers can utilize a Google-based voice recognition system to make infotainment interactions easier and less distracting.
Features like trailer tire pressure sensors and an additional rearview camera make towing safer and less stressful, while GM’s Super Cruise allows hands-free driving on the highway. The Ford F-150 is the only other truck with this level of driver automation.

What’s New
The 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 will be available in two new paint colors: Cypress Gray and Riptide Blue Metallic, while the Work Truck will receive a new Universal Vehicle Module for use by public safety agencies.
The 2025 model returns in Work Truck, Custom, LT, RST, Custom Trail Boss, LTZ, LT Trail Boss, and High Country trims with a choice of rear-wheel or four-wheel drive on all models, except the Trail Boss, which is exclusively four-wheel drive.
- The 10-speed transmission is now only available on four-wheel drive models.
- The Trail Boss trim gets standard all-terrain tires.
- Minor changes to standard features
- Part of the fourth-generation Silverado introduced in 2019
2025 Silverado 1500 Interior
The Silverado can be configured in various ways, from the basic Work Truck model to the luxurious High Country. The base model only offers essentials, including manually adjustable front seats, manual locks and windows, and vinyl upholstery.
Starting with the LT trim, the cabin feels much more luxurious thanks to a more attractive dashboard design with a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and a large center touchscreen. The High Country’s interior is beautiful, with leather upholstery and open-pore wood trim. While the crew cab has a spacious rear seat with ample headroom, we found the rear seat cushions to be uncomfortable.
Yet, it’s a practical hauler, with clever storage compartments scattered throughout the cabin. While Chevy no longer offers the carbon-fiber-reinforced cargo bed on the half-ton Sierra, it now provides a similar multi-function tailgate, dubbed Multi-Flex. Furthermore, Chevy’s wide selection of bed lengths will surely please classic car enthusiasts.
2025 Chevy Silverado 1500 Tech
Every Silverado 1500 has a touchscreen infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a mobile hotspot. Physical knobs and buttons make interacting with the system easy, and we appreciated the screen’s quick response to our touch input.
The LT trim and above feature a 13.4-inch horizontal touchscreen with advanced features like Google’s voice assistant, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and available Amazon Alexa integration.
2025 Chevy Silverado 1500 Comfort
The Silverado’s seats aren’t as comfortable as those in the F-150 or Ram 1500, but they offer enough cushioning and support to keep you cozy on long trips. The highway ride is relatively smooth, and the truck absorbs most minor bumps. However, the seats can feel bouncy on bumpy and downhill roads.
The climate control system efficiently heats and cools the cabin, although its operation is complicated due to the numerous small controls. We particularly appreciate the optional heated and ventilated front seats (separate settings for the backrest and seat cushion), a GM-exclusive feature. The engine noise is effectively muffled until you step on the accelerator too hard, which can become annoying.

2025 Silverado 1500 Engine
English: A variety of engines—including a turbocharged four-cylinder, a pair of V-8s, and a 3.0-liter Duramax diesel inline-six—means there’s a Silverado 1500 powertrain for any job or adventure. The 6.2-liter V-8 produces 420 horsepower, while the smaller 5.3-liter makes 355 horsepower.
The 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder produces 310 horsepower, and the diesel makes 277. Every version of the Silverado we drove felt smaller than its size suggested. The truck’s handling was agile, and the brake pedal provided firm, reassuring feedback.
Those looking for a more rugged half-ton Silverado will appreciate the Trail Boss model. It features a 2.0-inch lift, rugged tires, and other upgrades that make off-roading easier and more enjoyable. The ZR2 is the most serious off-roader, and we review it separately.
2025 Chevy Silverado 1500 Performance
With the larger 6.2-liter V-8 engine, the Silverado High Country we tested reached 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 5.4 seconds. By comparison, the smaller 355-hp 5.3-liter engine took 6.1 seconds. The diesel-powered Silverado we tested had the slowest acceleration, but we were impressed by its smooth and quiet operation.
2025 Chevy Silverado 1500 Payload
The half-ton Silverado is a capable hauler with a maximum towing capacity of 13,300 pounds. Its maximum towing capacity beats the Ram 1500 by 550 pounds, but lags behind the F-150 by 700 pounds. The Chevy’s highest towing capacity is achieved with a 6.2-liter V-8 engine, but the 5.3-liter version can still tow up to 11,500 pounds. Models with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine can tow up to 9,500 pounds. The Chevy pickup’s drivetrain is less impactful regarding payload, ranging from 1,870 to 2,280 pounds.
2025 Silverado 1500 MPG
Don’t expect the Silverado 1500 to save you money at the pump, but some of its powertrain options are more efficient. The optional diesel is the most economical, with an EPA estimate of up to 23 mpg city and 33 mpg highway. With all-wheel drive, the highway rating drops to 26 mpg, which we matched on our 75-mph fuel economy route.
Meanwhile, the gas-powered turbo-four with all-wheel drive is rated at up to 20 mpg city and 22 mpg highway. The more fuel-efficient 5.3-liter V-8 with all-wheel drive is rated at up to 16 mpg city and 22 mpg highway; our real-world testing revealed that it’s more efficient than the Silverado’s smallest engine, the turbocharged four-cylinder: in our testing, the V-8 achieved 21 mpg while the turbo-four delivered 18 mpg.
This 6.2-liter V-8 engine has an estimated fuel economy of up to 16/21 mpg city/highway, and in our real-world road tests, it also proved to be very fuel-efficient compared to the turbo-four engine, which received 19 mpg. For more information on the Silverado’s fuel economy, visit the EPA website.
2025 Silverado 1500 Models
With nine different models and four engine options, the Silverado 1500 offers buyers a wide selection to meet their needs. For many, the mid-range LT will be the right choice, offering a much more comfortable interior than the standard Work Truck, without the all-terrain features and luxury items that may be unnecessary.
The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is a full-size pickup truck with nine trim levels: Work Truck (WT), Custom, Custom Trail Boss, LT, RST, LT Trail Boss, ZR2, LTZ, and High Country. Like most full-size trucks, the Silverado comes in various cab and bed configurations. These include a two-door standard cab, a four-door extended cab (Double Cab), and a four-door crew cab with full-size rear doors and plenty of room in the back seat. There are three bed sizes: an 8-foot-long bed, a 6.5-foot bed, and a 5-foot-8-inch bed. Please keep reading for our editorial team’s review of the Silverado’s engines and features.
Chevrolet gives you four engine options for the Silverado 1500:
- The engine is a turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder with 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque.
- 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque from a 5.3-liter V8 engine
- 6.2-liter V8 engine with 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque
- A 3.0-liter six-cylinder diesel engine with a turbocharger makes 305 hp and 495 lb-ft of torque.
Variants with rear-wheel drive have an eight-speed automatic transmission, whereas variants with four-wheel drive have a ten-speed automatic transmission. We noted which engines come standard and which are optional for each trim. Most of the time, rear-wheel drive is standard, while four-wheel drive is an option. Some of the best features of the Silverado by trim are:

There are also many trailer monitoring systems that let you attach trailer tire-pressure sensors or rearview cameras.

2025 Chevy Silverado 1500 Competitors
There’s stiff competition at the top of the full-size pickup class. The Ford F-150 leads sales and the rankings thanks to its large towing capacity of 13,500 pounds (5,700 kg) and advanced features like an onboard generator. The Silverado 1500 nearly matches it with a towing capacity of up to 13,300 pounds (5,700 kg), and both surpass the 2025 Ram 1500, which has a maximum capacity of 11,550 pounds (5,700 kg).
However, we rate the Ram higher due to its smoother ride and more elegant interior. The Toyota Tundra has a similar suspension design with comparable ride quality advantages, and it’s also available with a hybrid powertrain.
2025 Silverado 1500 Price
The 2025 Silverado 1500 starts at $37,845 and goes up to $64,895, depending on trim and options. While the standard Work Truck and Custom trim suits workers and those on a budget, the LT model offers a more luxurious interior; in our opinion, this is the one to go for.
The Silverado’s crew cab configuration with a standard bed for more cargo and passenger space is a worthy option. The 5.3-liter V-8 engine is preferred over the optional diesel because it’s cheaper and quicker. Unlike the standard turbo-four, the V-8 allows you to choose the Z71 Off-Road package with upgraded hardware, making playing in dirt and mud easier and more enjoyable.
| Models | Prices |
|---|---|
| Work Truck | $37,845 |
| Custom | $44,445 |
| LT | $48,945 |
| RST | $52,345 |
| Custom Trail Boss | $52,645 |
| LT Trail Boss | $59,645 |
| LTZ | $59,895 |
| High Country | $64,895 |

Verdict
The 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 remains true to its classic roots, and recent updates to the interior and technology significantly help make this truck more competitive with its standard-size competitors. However, its lackluster comfort and resale value keep it from being a top choice.
The Silverado isn’t overly expensive, but it’s priced higher than its main competitors without offering any features, style, or interior quality advantages. The dashboard buttons and plastics are similar to those of the previous-generation truck: sturdy but somewhat cheap-looking. Chevy’s warranty is average, although you get your first scheduled maintenance free.
The 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 continues to impress with its power, innovation, and versatility blend, making it a strong contender in the full-size truck segment.
