2027 Chevy Silverado 1500: GM Authority has been closely monitoring the development of the next-generation 2027 Chevy Silverado 1500. We’ve provided exclusive information on the truck’s platform, launch date, and specifications for the new Gen 6 Small Block V8 engine, as well as numerous prototype photos showing undisclosed exterior and interior changes. Until now, people have only seen the next-generation Silverado as a camouflaged prototype. But now, we can see what’s underneath.

Renowned media outlet Car and Driver has provided a complete look at the exterior design of the next-generation pickup truck, albeit only in black and white. The image was created on December 9, 2025. The name of the vehicle is not mentioned, but it looks very similar to the next-generation 2027 Chevy Silverado.

The next-generation 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 has a tougher, sharper look than the current generation. The front end in the patent images is more upright and boxy, with a rectangular grille and stiffer lines both horizontally and vertically. The outline of the Chevy Bow Tie logo on the front makes it clear we’re looking at a Chevrolet.

The headlights in the patent images have a more prominent C-shaped lighting pattern and are quite similar to the front of the 2025 Chevy Tahoe and 2025 Chevy Suburban, which are updated full-size SUVs.

The DRLs (Daytime Running Lights) are the uppermost horizontal elements of the headlights, and we’ve seen them peeking out from under the camouflage in spy shots. These distinctive DRLs stretch all the way to the front of the car, and the actual headlights are housed within these distinctive features, like this.

Note the hood, which has two bulges, and the fog lights on the outer edges of the lower fascia. There’s a fairly visible lower air intake just past the lower grille. This makes us think this design patent is for a conventional LT or RST model, not an off-road model like the Trail Boss or ZR2, which wouldn’t have such an air intake. Either way, let’s hope GM makes it easy to remove.

The side view shows a shape comparable to the current Silverado 1500, though more upright and with more detailed surface development. The mirrors are mounted on the body differently than the models of the past decade.

The Crew Cab model’s rear doors have two prominent locations where the curve becomes an edge: the window shape at the end of the door and the rearmost bottom corner of the door.

These images show that the 2027 Chevy Silverado will have taillights shaped like those on the Silverado EV. There are also wider fender flares, similar to those seen on the new Colorado from 2023 onward.

The CornerStep rear bumper also appears larger, and the center bumper step, which sits above the license plate, has been modified to have more slats. There’s also the tailgate, which features numerous intricate surface details, hinting at changes to the Multi-Flex tailgate. Also, note the silhouette of the Chevy bowtie logo at the top of the tailgate.

Looking lower down at the rear fascia, we can find the housing for two exhaust pipes. We already know that a set of dual exhaust tips, like those found on the 2024 and newer Chevy Traverse, the 2025 and newer Tahoe and Suburban, and the Corvette C8 Stingray and E-Ray, will be installed here.

The high-mounted center brake light (CHMSL) is another noticeable feature from the rear. It looks much wider than the one on the current Silverado.

2027 Chevy Silverado 1500 Updates

Chevrolet said the following about the patent filing: “GM routinely files applications with the U.S. Patent Office to protect our intellectual property, trademarks, and innovations. Not every filing means a product will be produced in the future. We cannot comment on rumors regarding future products.”

The current Chevrolet Silverado has been on the market since the 2019 model year, suggesting a complete redesign is imminent. Early last year, our spy photographers spotted the modified truck testing with extensive camouflage. Now, we’ve discovered patents showing the full design of the 2027 Silverado.

On December 9th, the document was submitted to the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The document shows the exterior of an unnamed truck, but everything points to the 2027 Silverado.

The front end is quite different. The new headlights resemble those found on the Chevy Tahoe and Suburban SUVs and Chevy HD trucks. An eyebrow-like LED strip sits atop the headlights, with C-shaped LEDs below encircling the main headlight assembly. The large grille remains wide and tall, and the Chevy logo sits on a bar that stretches between the headlights.

The front bumper looks similar to the old model, with a large trapezoidal section in the center. However, the new bumper is more curved. The hood is also more aggressively shaped than before, with two large humps on either side of the concave center section. This suggests the car has a powerful engine. The fenders appear more prominent on the sides, although it’s difficult to tell what shape they are from these images.

The taillights extend across the rear, and their upper left edge protrudes, similar to the look on the Silverado EV. The bumper still has trim installed at the outer corners, and a trim appears to run across the tailgate where the Chevy logo is located.

The patent doesn’t cover the cabin, but our spy photographers managed to get a glimpse inside the new truck in March. It appears to feature a large screen that stretches from behind the steering wheel to the center of the dashboard. This makes it appear similar to the 33.0-inch displays found in some late-model Cadillacs.

Some existing engine options, such as the turbocharged four-cylinder and Duramax inline-six diesel engines, will remain the same with only minor changes. GM also said it is working on a next-generation V-8 engine for full-size trucks and SUVs, which will go into production in 2027.

The next-generation Silverado is due out in 2027, so we expect to see the full model line-up in 2026.

  • A patent application has shown the design of the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado before it is fully revealed next year.
  • The new headlights on the Silverado feature C-shaped LEDs, similar to those on the Tahoe and Suburban.
  • The front looks sharper than before, and the taillights look more like the Silverado EV’s taillights.

2027 Chevy Silverado 1500 Redesign

Thanks to some new patent images showing an updated pickup body in black and white, we got a glimpse of the next-generation 2027 Chevy Silverado 1500 a few days ago.

The new design features a number of cool elements, including a redesigned front end and a new tailgate. It also appears the next-generation Silverado will feature a larger roof-mounted spoiler at launch.

Based on the diagram, the rear spoiler has been modified to a much wider shape and much larger integrated lights. These modifications may not be immediately visible, but they could result in significant improvements to lighting, load capacity, and perhaps even the way antennas are mounted on the next-generation full-size pickup truck.

The rear cabin spoiler on the current model is rather narrow and centered. It houses the Center Brake Light (CHMSL) and cargo lights that face the cargo bed. The lighting components are small, and the CHMSL barely covers the width of the spoiler.

So far, the existing configuration has worked well, and from a design standpoint, the current spoiler looks clean and not too flashy.

On the other hand, patent images for the 2027 Chevy Silverado show a much larger spoiler. This suggests the CHMSL (Chain Mounted Motorcycle Light) will be wider and possibly more diffused cargo bed lighting.

One plausible explanation for this new design is safety and ease of use. A wider CHMSL would make it easier to see out the back, especially when towing or hauling, and larger lights facing the cargo bed would significantly brighten the cargo bed.

However, there are several elements not shown in the patent drawings. For example, the larger spoiler may also house an integrated antenna. As previously mentioned, GM is likely to discontinue the use of traditional fin-style roof antennas on its light-duty pickup trucks.

This redesigned spoiler combines the 5G, XM, and other wireless antennas into one body-colored piece, making the roofline look better and protecting sensitive electronics in one solid structure.

Of course, this is all just speculation at this point, but don’t worry; we’ll let you know if we hear anything more definitive.

2027 Chevy Silverado 1500 Interior

You can customize the Silverado in many ways, from the basic Work Truck variant to the fully loaded High Country model. Base models just have the basics, such vinyl seats, manual locks and windows, and front seats that can be adjusted by hand.

But the cabin gets a lot nicer starting with the LT level. It has a more stylish dashboard with a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a big touchscreen in the middle. The leather seats and open-pore wood trim on the inside of the High Country make it seem especially nice. The crew cab features a huge back seat with plenty of headroom, but we found the pillows back there to be unpleasant.

This is still a useful carrier, with smart storage spaces throughout the cabin. The Chevy doesn’t have the half-ton Sierra’s carbon-fiber-reinforced cargo bed, but it does have a similar multifunction tailgate called Multi-Flex. Plus, the Chevy’s multiple bed lengths will definitely please traditionalists.

Tech

All Silverado 1500s come with a touchscreen infotainment system that works with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a mobile hotspot. The tactile buttons and knobs made it easy to use the system, and we liked how quickly the screen responded to our touch.

The LT trim and higher include a 13.4-inch touchscreen that is horizontal and contains extra capabilities such a voice assistant powered by Google, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the option to connect to Amazon Alexa.

2027 Chevy Silverado 1500 Engine

The Silverado 1500 has a powertrain for any job or adventure, with a turbocharged four-cylinder, two V-8s, and a Duramax diesel 3.0-liter inline-six. The 5.3-liter V-8 has 355 horsepower, while the 6.2-liter V-8 has 420 horsepower.

2027 Chevy Silverado 1500

The four-cylinder engine with a turbocharger makes 310 horsepower, while the diesel engine makes 305. We thought every generation of the Silverado we drove was smaller than it really was. The truck is surprisingly easy to steer, and the brake pedal gives you strong, reassuring sensation.

The Trail Boss variants are great for people who want a more rugged half-ton Silverado. They have a 2.0-inch lift, tough tires, and other improvements that make it easier and more fun to take the road less traveled. We review the ZR2 individually because it is the most serious off-roader.

Towing

The half-ton Silverado can tow up to 13,300 pounds, which is a lot. It can pull 550 pounds more than the Ram 1500, but 700 pounds less than the F-150. The 6.2-liter V-8 gets Chevy’s highest tow rating, but the 5.3-liter version can still pull up to 11,500 pounds. The four-cylinder turbocharged engine can pull up to 9,500 pounds. When it comes to payload, which is between 1,870 and 2,280 pounds, the Chevy pickup’s powertrains don’t matter as much.

EPA

The EPA says that the diesel engine Silverado is the most fuel-efficient model. It gets up to 23 mpg in the city, 28 mpg on the interstate, and 25 mpg combined. Silverados with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine can get up to 18 mpg in the city, 21 mpg on the highway, and 20 mpg overall.

Silverados with a V-8 engine can get up to 16 mpg in the city, 21 mpg on the highway, and 18 mpg overall.

2027 Chevy Silverado 1500 Price

A: The value of a 2017 Chevy Silverado depends heavily on the model, condition, and mileage. It typically ranges from $10,000 to $20,000, but the private sale value can be higher than the trade-in value. For example, a base model is worth between $11,000 and $19,000, while a Crew Cab/High Country model in good condition with average mileage is worth between $22,000 and $27,000 or more. A rougher or base model can be worth much less (even less than $10,000). For an accurate valuation, use a site like KBB, Edmunds, or CarGurus and enter your truck's model, mileage, and options.

A: For the Chevy Silverado, you should generally avoid early GMT900 models (circa 2007–2011) due to AFM/lifter issues, early K2XX generations (2014–2016) due to AFM, electrical, and transmission issues, and early T1XX models (2019–2021) due to DFM lifter failure. However, some production years, such as the problematic 2002, 2017, and 2014, are known to have a high number of complaints.

A: If you take good care of your Chevy Silverado, it should last between 200,000 and 300,000 miles. That's the bare minimum. Some owners have even driven their vehicles over 400,000 miles with careful maintenance and safe driving, demonstrating just how durable these trucks are.
