The Chevrolet Equinox is one of the compact crossover less well-known on the market, and it does not really help that, in terms of size, it was slightly larger than most of its competitors. Now appropriately sized and more Tech packaging, the brand new 2018 Equinox is looking to take a mouthful of fast growing compact pie. Available with a range of turbo engines and a wide variety of convenience and active security features, the crossover of the Bow Tie brand of redesign is now more user-friendly for the family. But does it have what it takes to mount against the segment pillars such as the Honda CR-V? We’ll find out.
Under the hood of our car Equinox 2018 test is a 1.5-liter with turbo-four 170 hp and 203 lb-ft of torque coupled to a gearbox to six-speed automatic transmission. At the test track, the associated road Test Editor Erick Ayapana found the transmission shifts too early in normal mode and used the manual shift button to get the fastest run at 60 mph of 9.2 seconds, finishing the quarter mile in 16.9 Seconds at 91.2 mph. This makes the Equinox 2018 one of the slowest entries in the compact crossover segment alongside the Nissan Rogue, Ford Escape 1.5 t EcoBoost, and the Kia sporting 2.4, which took 9.0 seconds or more to hit 60 mph and quarter of a mile in 16.0 seconds or more. The 60 mph shutdown took 119 feet, which is Mid-Pack, and it was during the braking tests where we noted that the Equinox had good body control and short trip to pedal.
2019 Chevrolet Equinox Premier Specifications
The spanking-new Chevrolet Equinox 2018 has done a very good and first impression when we led the powertrain of 1.5 liter which must take account of three-quarters of the sales of the CUV popular of average size. Praise was piled on his impressive, tense, and reactive chassis; It has stylish looks inside and out and awesome feature content. Our biggest gripe during this drive was with the six-speed auto aging and its strong contribution to what turned out to be a pretty mediocre performance a month later.
These problems, it turns out, are a snap to fix: Just check the control box labeled SLT on the Middle Lt or the top-drawer first level trim. This adds half a liter of displacement to the four Turbo thugs and three reports to the transfused. This harnesses a 82 horsepower plus and 59 lb-ft. of torque and greatly magnifies the leverage effect of the transmission. Chevy quantifies the improvement by estimating the propeller group plus will drop from 0 to 60 times per 2 seconds of the 9.2 we measured on the 1.5-liter six-speed (comparing the front-Drive models). And although people who shop for medium sized crossovers might not obsess over 0-60 or quarter of a Mile times, the entire nuclear family with a bunker full of weekend equipment will appreciate the comparative effort with which the Equinox 2.0- Liter jumps around long seedlings on a two-lane road. Even when driving with only two people on board, the 1.5-litre made me look for Super long openings and/or hoping for downhill possibilities with a tailwind.
Credit for this performance goes to the automatic nine-speed in approximately the same part as the six-speed won blames with 1.5. Cruise along at 50 mph in ninth gear at 1 200 rpm, and drop the hammer to pass. The TRANS controls a direct demoter to the fourth, landing the engine at 4 800 rpm. At this point, some 225 horses begin to gallop after a fraction of a second of Turbo spool-up. There is still another 700 or so the diet to go before reaching the peak of 252 HP, and a change in the redness occurs at 68 mph. Repeating this procedure at 65 mph provides the same exact results: 4 800 rpm in fifth with a red key shift at 87 mph if you keep your foot in it.
