2022 Chevy Equinox The release of the updated SUV was delayed by almost a year due to the global pandemic. As the pandemic forces automakers to ask for votes on future product plans, General Motors is prioritizing electric vehicles and major product launches, including lucrative full-size SUVs.
Triage means that some plans are canceled. Among these are a refresher of the popular Chevrolet Equinox compact crossover and the three-line Chevrolet Traverse.
The Chevrolet Equinox 2021 and Chevrolet Traverse 2021 were originally slated to go on sale in fall 2020; However, the updated model is soon being pushed to the 2022 model year. Now we know when the two updated SUVs will hit dealerships.
The Chevrolet Equinox 2022 goes on sale this summer, while the Chevrolet Traverse 2022 follows in the fall.
The mid-cycle refresh for the Equinox was first shown at the 2020 Chicago Auto Show – the last major auto show before the coronavirus that forced the cancellation of all major events for the rest of this year and into 2021.
2022 The Equinox features updated styling that gives it a more mature look. The main changes include a reworked grille, headlights, and taillights. For 2022, Chevy adds a new RS trim with black painted badges and wheels, a glossy grille, and a black interior with red contrast stitching.
The current Chevy Traverse, a mid-size family crossover with three rows of seats, was built in 2017. The updated 2022 model was revealed in March. Changes include narrower headlamps, a more cohesive grille, reworked fascia, and new LED taillights.
Inside is a new driver’s information center, improved materials, and a rear windshield guard for a two-panel sunroof. The infotainment system adds wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, too.
The second time the vehicle comes amidst the renewal of the Chevrolet brand. Despite the pandemic, volume brands increased sales, gained market share, and increased average transaction prices in 2020, said Chevrolet vice president Steve Hill.
Inventories of popular pickups and SUVs are sometimes scanty, and GM is investing in plants in the United States and Canada to increase the production of its engines, transmissions, and vehicles.
In addition, GM dealerships achieved record profitability, while online tools were being upgraded to increase sales during the pandemic.
GM has also adopted a more focused ordering process that looks at what models and options are most popular in a given area and ships the most suitable vehicles for that particular market. A service called “VIN view” allows dealers to find vehicles elsewhere in the country and track their progress to waiting customers.
2022 Chevy Equinox
The Chevrolet Equinox 2022 is one of the most popular compact crossovers, but mass consumption doesn’t mean it’s really attractive. Sure, the Chevy has plenty of passenger space, a feature-laden infotainment system, and athletic handling.
However, the interior quality and storage space are lacking in comparison to its competitors. While all-wheel drive is widely available, only the more powerful four-cylinder option of the Equinox provides the right propulsion.
Desirable engine upgrades combined with more extravagant trim levels pushed prices into expensive territory.
However, people who are committed to the bow tie brand and unaffected by mediocrity will appreciate Equinox 2022. The Chevrolet Equinox is a small SUV that competes with some of the most popular vehicles on the market.
Models such as the Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-5, and Toyota RAV4 are all direct rivals of the Equinox. So, for 2022, Chevy is giving the Equinox a little bit of updating in hopes of making it a more attractive option.
We originally thought this update was out for the Equinox 2021, but Chevy has put it off until the 2022 model year.
This includes a fresh look with new LED headlamps and a new grille. You can also get the Equinox in the new RS trim which has black wheels and black trim for a sportier look.
2022 Chevy Equinox Review
The popular Equinox crossover from Chevrolet will enter the 2021 model year with a comprehensive update and the 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine as the only engine available.
The 2.0-liter turbo-four offered through 2020 is thought to leave the lineup but will be replaced for 2022 with a newer engine that generates slightly less power while restoring better fuel economy, according to a recent report.
Internally called the LSY, the new 2.0-liter turbo-four engine already powers the Cadillac XT4, among other models in the General Motors portfolio.
The GM Authority fan website knows that this engine will produce 237 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and 258 pound-feet of torque from 1,500 to 4,000 RPM.
For context, the 2.0 liter available through 2020 (known as the LTG) makes 252 horses and 260 pound-feet of spin, and 1.5-liter post figures 170 and 203 respectively.

As a trade-off for a slight reduction in horsepower and torque, the LSY is smoother, quieter, and cleaner than the LTG it replaces.
The transmission options are still unconfirmed, but the four-cylinder will likely switch via a nine-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive will be standard, and all-wheel drive will be offered for an additional fee.
Chevrolet has not yet commented on the report; it hasn’t even confirmed that Equinox loses its LTG engines for 2021. If the rumors are accurate, details about Equinox 2022 should be released in the first half of 2021.
GM authorities added the GMC Terrain, which is closely tied to the Equinox, will receive new engines for 2022 as well. Both were supposed to get it for 2021, but an ongoing global pandemic has delayed its rollout.

Difference between Equinox LS and LT 2020

Chevy Equinox LT 1.5L – includes an enhanced 4.2-inch driver information display, power-adjustable 8-way driver seat, rear seat release lever, HID headlamps, and heated, power-adjustable exterior mirrors.
What is the difference between Chevy Equinox LT and 1LT?
The Equinox Premier is equipped with a blind-spot monitor, which is optional on the LT but not available on the L and LS versions. LT and Premium trim levels can be upgraded to a 2.0-liter turbo-4 engine that delivers 252 hp and 260 lb-ft to a 9-speed automatic, or the 1.6 liter 4-cylinder turbodiesel.
2022 Chevy Equinox RS
Equinox RS gets a dark badge, trim, and bow tie badge; wheels and grille are re-coated in dark gray. For those familiar with the Camaro ZL1 files, you’ll see that the RS grille clearly takes inspiration from its wavy waterfall design.
The Equinox also gets separate LED headlights and daytime running lights which contribute to a more aggressive display. From the back, it’s easy to tell the RS isn’t your run-of-the-mill Equinox because of the new LED taillights and four-pointed exhaust setup.
One of the biggest updates to the Equinox 2022 is the addition of new trim. The Equinox RS will bring a sportier look to the SUV with a gloss black grille, black badges and trim elements, and dark wheels. Inside, there is a special RS shift knob, red stitching, and black seats.
On the technology front, almost everything is the same, including Chevy’s latest infotainment system featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
However, Big Bowtie did ditch some of the new security systems the Equinox way. The crossover now comes standard with the help of lane guards, lane departure alerts, automatic emergency braking, automatic high beam, and the following distance monitors.
Throw in more money and you can also choose from parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, auto parking assistance, and blind-spot monitoring.
Otherwise, Equinox is the same as before. Buyers get a choice of two gas engines, 1.5 liters turbocharged I4 or 2.0-liter turbo-four. Depending on the engine, a six or nine-speed automatic transmission is offered. All-wheel drive is available, while front-wheel drive is standard.
With the update for 2022, Chevy has shown its determination to keep Equinox fresh. The new RS trim should be especially attractive to younger buyers who may be transitioning to a more family-oriented lifestyle but don’t want to completely give up on owning a vehicle that is sporty and enjoyable enough to drive.
Expect Equinox to continue to be a great mix of practicality, value, and efficiency in the future. The 2022 model will reach dealers this fall.
2022 Chevrolet Equinox LT
Overview of the 2022 Chevy Equinox LT. Equinox LT gets leather upholstery available. If not, we are waiting for the updates that were due in 2021 but were postponed due to COVID-19.

We’ll select this model and add the optional Comfort and Comfort package (for remote start and heated front seats) and all-wheel drive, for a total of $ 32,340.

2022 Chevy Equinox Refresh
The Chevrolet Equinox is scheduled to receive a refresh in 2021 (see 2021 Chevrolet Equinox info), however, due to complications caused by the Coronavirus pandemic, changes are being pushed to the 2022 model year.
As such, the Equinox receives a mid-cycle upgrade (MCE), otherwise known as the update, refresh or facelift, for the 2022 model year, comprising updates to its exterior, interior, and powertrain. This model made its official debut at the 2020 Chicago Auto Show, coming with a fresh look and new RS trim.
The updated Chevrolet Equinox 2022 will continue to be offered in a single body style – a compact four-door crossover utility vehicle (SUV).
The stylistic changes applied to Chevy’s popular compact crossover include:
- The new front grille, which now extends to the redesigned headlights
- Restyled lower fascia
- New fog lights
- Redesigned taillights
- Revised rear bumper
2022 Chevy Equinox Exterior
The Chevrolet Equinox gets a sportier, updated look, additional safety features are available, and RS trim. Without any major changes, we anticipate that the Chevy Equinox 2021 will continue to measure 183 ″ L x 73 ″ W x 65 ″ H.
You can also choose between 17-, 18-, or 19-inch tires with ten exterior colors. selection. This may not be the case for Equinox 2022.
We could see some new exterior colors and size changes in 2022. With the addition of the RS trim, we might see Cajun Red Tricoat paint or Red Hot paint (favorite on the 2020 Chevy Blazer) added to the Equinox lineup.
The exterior dimensions of the Chevrolet Equinox 2022 have not been revealed either. The size may be subject to change because the external appearance has undergone several new changes. After the size of the Chevrolet Equinox 2022 is displayed, we will pass on that information.
Unfortunately, production delays prompted an update to the Chevy Equinox model. Instead of arriving with a 2021 model year as expected, we won’t see it until the Chevy Equinox 2022 arrives.
Because of this delay, one of two things will happen. 1) Chevrolet will not offer a 2021 model for the Chevy Equinox and head straight into 2022. Or … 2) Chevrolet has decided to produce the Equinox 2021 as a residual model year that resembles the 2020 Equinox.
As for the Equinox 2022, substantial changes come with some differences striking from the 2020 Equinox. The Chevrolet Equinox 2022 will rock an edgier, sporty feel with some much-needed driver-assist safety features and a new RS trim level.
We look forward to seeing favorable safety ratings with the Chevy Equinox 2021/2022. The 2020 Chevrolet Equinox performed reasonably well during the safety tests and earned a Top Safety Pick from IIHS and a 5-star safety rating from NHTSA.
The new Chevy Equinox 2022 will feature standard lane departure alerts, rearview cameras, lane guard assistance, automatic forward emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, Teen Driver system, and rear-seat reminders. With more driver assist safety features available, the new Chevrolet Equinox will be safer than ever.
2022 Chevy Equinox Interior
Made of durable and well-styled materials, the Equinox cabin should inspire a broad appeal. Front and rear-seat passengers should feel comfortable in the spacious interior, with enough luxury to keep them satisfied on longer journeys.
The cabin has plenty of drinking places, but most interior luxuries are offered as standard or optional equipment at higher trim levels; The basic Equinox L is the price leader with very few features.
A few rivals offered more space behind the rear seats, but we still managed to fit our eight tote cases back there. Aside from the ample center console storage space, Equinox’s cabin storage is just average.
The 7.0-inch touch screen (optional 8.0-inch unit) features the Chevrolet MyLink infotainment interface above the Equinox dashboard; the system continues to impress with its ease of use and fast response.
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, as are Bluetooth phones and audio streaming, USB connectivity, and additional input jacks. Standard 4G LTE onboard Wi-Fi makes the Equinox one of the best-connected crossovers.

2022 Chevy Equinox Engine
Underpowered and often out of breath, the basic turbo four-cylinder engine won’t win over fans with its sluggish performance.
The turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine produces 170 horsepower, and when paired with the optional (and heavier) all-wheel-drive system (front-wheel drive is standard) it takes heavy legs to get the Equinox up to road speeds.
The larger, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder is optional and is much better suited to the Equinox weight.
The standard six-speed automatic shifts smoothly, and for fuel economy, the gearbox is reluctant to downshift when extra power is needed. Comfortable and easy to ride, the Equinox handles competently, and steering is accurate and direct.
The ride is a bit rough, especially with the optional 19-inch wheels (standard 17 or 18), and the rougher stretch of road sends some discomfort into the cabin. The Chevy can also pull in up to £ 3,500 if equipped properly.
The 2022 Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain will once again become available with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, according to the GM Authority. For the 2021 model year, this crossover is only available with a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder.
When the updated Equinox debuted, Chevy initially said it would be available with both 1.5 and 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder.
The company then reversed course by deciding to offer only a smaller engine for the 2021 model year.

According to GM Authority, the Equinox and Terrain will use GM’s 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that uses an internal LSY.
This machine is already available in vehicles such as the Cadillac XT4 and the Chevrolet Blazer. In this application, it is expected that the engine produces 237 horsepower (177 kilowatts) and 258 pound-feet (350 Newton-meters) of torque.
The 2.0-liter turbo previously available in this model is slightly more powerful producing 252 hp (188 kW) and 260 lb-ft (353 Nm).
Despite the slight drop in power, the LSY engine is reported to have lower emissions and better refinements than other manufacturers.
2022 Chevy Equinox MPG
The EPA estimates that the front-wheel-drive Equinox on a four-cylinder basis will produce 26 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. Adding all-wheel drive reduces both ratings by 1 mpg.
Switched to a larger four-cylinder engine and fuel economy estimates dropped to 22 mpg city and 29 highway for the front-drive model; the all-wheel-drive version shares the city rating and should get 28 mpg highway.
We used both Equinox engines to hit the real-world 75 mph fuel-economy test route. The smaller engine with front-wheel drive delivers 32 mpg on the road and we’re looking at 28 mpg with the all-wheel-drive version.
Equipped with a larger engine and all-wheel drive, the Equinox achieved 30 mpg in our tests.
2022 Chevy Equinox Price
Chevy has yet to announce the price of the 2022 Equinox, but we expect each model to cost a little more when it goes on sale this fall.
Even though the lineup adds a classy RS on top, we recommend the mid-range LT. It comes standard with chrome exterior trim, an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, high-intensity discharge headlights, SiriusXM satellite radio, and more.
Those who want an all-wheel drive can add it for $ 1,600. We’ll also select the Confidence and Convenience package, which includes blind-spot monitoring, dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, leather-covered steering wheel, power lift doors, rear traffic warning, and remote start.
2022 Chevy Equinox Release Date
Chevy hasn’t announced pricing for the Equinox 2022 yet, but we expect each model to cost a little more when it goes on sale this fall. Even though the lineup adds a stylish RS at the top, we still recommend the mid-range LT.
It comes standard with chrome exterior trim, an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, high-intensity discharge headlights, SiriusXM satellite radio, and more. Since we are not fans of the standard four-cylinder engine, we will upgrade to the more powerful 2.0-liter turbo option.
Those who want an all-wheel drive can add it for $ 1,600. We’ll also select the Confidence and Convenience package, which includes blind-spot monitoring, dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel, power lift doors, rear traffic alerts, and remote starting.

- LS – $ 27,500 (approx.)
