Luckily, a new model is on the way, and our spies just caught it in prototype form while it was undergoing testing. So take a look at the first shot of the Chevy Colorado 2023.
The prototype seen here appears to be a Crew Cab, Short Box model in the simplest Work Truck trim levels, as suggested by the steel wheels typically associated with WT trim levels.
A large amount of camouflage vinyl wraps around most of the truck, including the front and rear ends, along with the sides. Only the roof of the cabin is decorated with a thinner checkered camo.
All that camo makes it hard to tell what’s going on at the front end of this 2023 Chevy Colorado prototype, although we can say that a set of headlights is present and counts.
These halogen placeholder lights are (apparently) expected to give way to a (ner) thin set of LED units, similar to what we saw in the upcoming Silverado 1500 refresh, as leaked earlier this month.
Covered in a healthy amount of camo, the sides of the body hide a new sheet of metal. However, it seems that the general dimensions of the Crew Cab, Short Box configuration appear to be similar to the current model.
A hard tonneau cover hides the box from view, while the rear, also decorated with a heavy camo, hides the tailgate.
However, we barely get to see the notch of the CornerStep rear bumper and the single exit side exhaust tip on the passenger side of the truck.
The 2023 Chevy Colorado will drive an updated version of GM’s current GMT-31XX body-on-frame architecture, which will be dubbed the 31XX-2. The vehicle will get an all-new exterior and interior, along with an all-new powerplant in the form of a turbocharged 2.7L I-4 L3B petrol engine currently offered in the Silverado 1500.
The app offers four engines with 310 horsepower and 348 lb-ft of torque. GM’s 10-speed automatic transmission handles gear changes. The 2.5L I4 LCV and 3.6L V6 LGZ engines will not be offered with the Duramax 2.8L I4 LWN turbodiesel.
The midsize pickup, consistently among the top three in its segment in terms of sales, will also use GM Global B’s new electric architecture, also known as the Vehicle Intelligence Platform or VIP.
In addition to over-the-air (OTA) update capabilities for all vehicle components, Global B also supports the latest active safety technologies and infotainment systems.
2023 The Chevy Colorado will continue to be built at GM’s Wentsville plant in Missouri with its sibling, the 2023 GMC Canyon. GM is investing $1 billion in a venture dedicated to the new midsize truck.
The international market variant, which is marketed as the Chevrolet S10 in South America, is expected to be more similar to the North American market model.
The S10 will be built at the São José dos Campos plant in Brazil, which received a $1.3 billion investment for the next-generation model. GM’s Rayong plant in Thailand, which built the S10 for Southeast Asia, has been closed and sold as GM/Chevrolet pulled out of the region.

2023 Chevy Colorado Redesign
The latest prototype of the Chevrolet Colorado has been revealed for the first time.
Colorado currently arrived in the US in 2015 but has been available in other countries since 2011.
In other words, it’s no surprise that redesigned models are produced, especially with new versions of rivals Ford Ranger and Nissan.
The prototype is heavily disguised, but it looks like the Chevy design team used the same sleek headlights as on the Silverado.
The redesigned Colorado is expected to use the latest 31XX platform version of the current model, although we can see it’s a bit bigger this time around.
The prototype was intended for a short-bed cockpit configuration, but a single-cab long-bed version will also be returned.
It makes sense for Chevy to stick with the current platform rather than invest in a new platform, as future generations of Colorado may have to move to a battery-powered platform. By sticking to the existing platform, the existing powertrain portfolio can be easily transported. This means that we can expect petrol and diesel engines in addition to the V6 petrol engine. Hybrid variants can also be offered with the new generation.
Look for the redesigned Colorado to arrive late next year as the 2023 model. The related GMC Canyon redesign will arrive at about the same time.

Rumors suggest the Colorado could get a 2.7-liter Sierra inline-four with 310 horsepower and 348 lb-ft of torque. With this engine, the GMC Sierra can tow up to 9,100 pounds.
However, it is unclear whether Colorado will gain more muscle. The current model can already pull up to 7,700 lbs, which is more than its rivals.
Colorado 2023 may get an electric battery platform too. The V6 hybrid option may appear before the EV variant arrives. The current powertrain options are also carry-on, giving us hope for the inline-four diesel.
In addition, it can adopt General Motors’ new Global B electric architecture called Intelligent Vehicle Platform (VIP). This allows all vehicle components to be updated over the air (OTA) while providing the latest active safety technologies and infotainment systems.
2023 Chevy Colorado Rendering
Chevrolet renders gear up to launch the Silverado 1500 in the 2022 model year, and against this backdrop, the Golden Bowtie is working on a complete redesign of the Colorado.
The mid-size pickup, slated for model year 2023, will be built at the Wentzville plant in Missouri.
Introduced by Photoshop tycoon Kleber Silva with two body colors, a two-wheel design and two transmissions, the AllNew Colorado will be available with two cab options and two body lengths.
Unlike the new Ford Ranger 2023, General Motors will use the architectural evolution of the 31XX, known as the 31XX2.
These parts were shared with GM do Brasil as the Colorado was produced domestically for South America as the S10.
Switching to the American version, General Motors could abandon all available horsepower in favor of a turbocharged four-cylinder engine.
The L3B is the code name for the culprit, also known as Tripower on the Silverado 1500. The 2.7-liter engine uses twin rotary turbine housings and power outlets, and the BorgWarner turbocharger delivers up to 22 psi. the square of the momentum.
Like the Cadillac CT4V, the aluminum engine develops 310,325 horsepower plus 348 and 381 lb-ft (472,517 Nm), respectively.
Like the Silverado and Sierra from the GMC brand, the next Colorado and Canyon are expected to be a bit smarter thanks to the next-generation infotainment system.
The cabin is clearly getting a makeover as well, and it’s likely that touch controls will replace some of the physical buttons.
2023 Chevy Colorado ZR2
As usual, the lineup should start with the rear-wheel drive WT (Work Truck) and top with the Z71 and ZR2 variants.
Because its foundation is very similar to that of the upcoming Colorado, the next-generation ZR2 should retain the Multimatic DSSV (Dynamic Suspension Spool Valve) damping technology that Chevrolet previously used on the fifth-generation Camaro Z/28.
Expected Changes, Updates, New Features
We expect the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado to receive a complete overhaul (redesign and reengineering), introducing the third generation of the Colorado nameplate.

2023 Chevy Colorado Interior
It’s hard to say what the current interior of the Chevy Colorado 2023 will look like. Chevrolet is still keeping it a secret.
However, it’s safe to expect a new modern layout with higher quality materials and a bit more space.
Tech feature upgrades may include a larger infotainment screen with updated graphics, Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a new digital gauge cluster display, and possibly a heads-up display.

While the Colorado 2023 gets a new look, it misses out on powertrain options. Autoblog notes that if the Colorado follows in Ford’s footsteps, it will only be offered with a single powertrain.
That can only be offered with a new 2.7T turbocharged four-cylinder engine that pumps out 310 hp and 348 lb-ft of torque in the Silverado 1500.
This could mean that the engine will deliver more power with the smaller Colorado, which is attractive. But it also means that the current 3.6-liter V6, 2.8-liter four-turbodiesel, and entry-level 2.5-liter four-cylinder will not return.
If this information is accurate, then the Chevy Colorado could go up in price. The less powerful option will not be available, and we know that some enthusiasts will miss the rare diesel option.
The new powertrain variant is expected to be paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. There is no information about a manual transmission or hybrid powertrain yet.
We expect the Chevrolet Colorado 2023 to offer only one engine option – the GM 2.7L L3B turbo-charged four-cylinder engine with TriPower technology.
In the Silverado 1500, the engine produces 310 horsepower (231 kW) @ 5600 RPM and 348 pound-feet (471 Nm) @ 1500 rpm of torque. A 10-speed automatic transmission will be the only power option.
Accordingly, the Colorado 2023 is expected to discontinue the Duramax turbo-diesel engine option and the six-cylinder engine option. In comparison, the second-generation Colorado is offered with three engine options:

2023 Chevrolet Colorado Platform
The third-generation Chevrolet Colorado will use an updated version of the same GMT 31XX platform used by the second-generation model.
The updated architecture will be known as 31XX-2 internally at GM. It will be shared with GMC Canyon 2023 and later.
Before November 2018, GM plans to develop a new platform called the 32XX for the third-generation Colorado (and Canyon).
That architecture will also support GM’s proposed Jeep Wrangler fighter jet. However, the competitor Wrangler was canceled as part of GM’s ongoing restructuring and cost optimization efforts.
2023 Chevy Colorado Price
The 2023 Chevy Colorado has an MSRP starting at $25,200. The top ZR2 Crew Cab models start at $44,200. The 2023 Chevy Colorado is the top choice in the competitive midsize pickup truck segment.
2023 Chevy Colorado Release Date and Production
The Chevy Colorado 2023 will continue to be assembled at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri by GM USA. GM’s Sao Jose Dos Campos plant in Brazil will produce vehicles for the South American market.
We expect the Chevy Colorado 2023 to launch in the second half of calendar year 2022. Debuts in the first half of calendar year 2022 are likely.
We expect the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado to introduce the first five third-generation Colorado models. The car is expected to be released in at least 2027. The next plans are still unclear.
Verdict
Well, the Chevrolet Colorado is a great option to consider, especially if you want to get some of the features currently on offer before they go away.
A 2023 Chevy Colorado will cost around $26,200. In addition, four-cylinder diesel engines and V6 engines are currently gaining more traction than their competitors.
If properly equipped, the 2021 Colorado can tow up to 7,700 pounds and carry a payload of up to 1,578 pounds. Its maximum lifting capacity is 49.9 cubic feet. Serves as an inexpensive option for work and leisure.
Colorado offers a smoother ride than its competitors, with new acceleration, limited body roll and confident braking, but less wind and road noise than in the cab at higher speeds.
Tall passengers can find comfort in the front row, but the interior has a practical layout with easy-to-reach controls.
Limited internal storage. The rear seats don’t fold and you won’t find much storage space. But there’s a handy phone tray and plenty of cup holders.
This might be a good time to buy a Colorado if you want an affordable base or diesel model before it disappears. However, we are only speculating on the upcoming 2023 or 2024 model.
