This is why the launch of the second generation of the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse seems like a missed opportunity. While there’s nothing wrong with it, it’s also nothing unique.
Now in the middle of its lifecycle, the updated Chevy Traverse 2023 seems to change the scenario with some improvements to stay competitive.
The most immediate change to expect is the front, which now bears a striking resemblance to the Chevy Blazer. The Traverse also borrows the sleek, streamlined design of the Blazer’s headlights, which incorporates turn signals into daytime running lights.
It’s a cool visual trick that sets the Traverse’s signature headlights apart even from a distance. The taillights have also been redesigned to carry a new narrow theme.
Interior additions are mainly limited to technology offerings. The touchscreen is loaded with Chevrolet’s latest infotainment system, which supports wireless integration of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Several driving aids that were previously optional — including forwarding collision warning and lane departure warning — are now standard on all models.
These changes address some of the shortcomings of the current Traverse, but there are still plenty of possibilities, such as subpar interior materials, poor rear visibility, and a high price tag.
With stiff competition from newer and better competitors like the Kia Telluride and Hyundai Palisade, upgrading to the Chevy Traverse 2023 may not be enough to set you apart from the rest.

After receiving a makeover last year (the second generation debuted in 2018), the Traverse’s expansive space remains the Chevrolet 8-seater’s biggest draw. That and its 310-horsepower V6.
Some of the other members of his class were newer and held their grades better, so they attracted more attention. The Traverse 2023 looks like an ordinary SUV by comparison. But it is detrimental.
Large families traveling by road should be pleased with the amount of legroom and headroom in each row, plus ample cargo space while enjoying the muscular engine and noticing how slowly the fuel gauge moves toward the E.
There’s no hybrid or turbo, but the Traverse 2023 has a powerful 3.6-liter V6 that produces more horsepower than most of its rivals. It propelled this midsize 3-row SUV with a confidence boost while restoring tolerable fuel economy figures.
The suspension adjustment keeps the family comfortable, but not too soft. Active noise cancellation helps keep the cab quiet while traveling.
2023 Chevy Traverse Redesign
The 2023 Traverse is the sixth model year of the second generation crossover.
Notably, the Traverse received a mid-cycle upgrade (MCE) – otherwise known as an update, refresh, or facelift – for the 2022 model year after it was delayed due to complications caused by the Coronavirus pandemic.
The refresh consists of significant updates to the exterior and interior (see the 2022 Chevrolet Traverse info). As such, the Traverse is expected to receive a minor update for the 2023 model year.
Like all second-generation Chevy Traverse units, the 2023 Traverse will continue to use the long-wheelbase variant of the GM C1 (or “Chi”) platform that was most directly shared with the 2018 Buick Enclave and later (second generation).
A shorter version of the C1 platform is used to support the following vehicles:
- 2017 Cadillac XT5 and later (1st generation)
- 2018 and newer GMC Acadia (2nd generation)
- Chevrolet Blazer 2019 and up
- Cadillac XT6 2020 and later (first generation)

2023 Chevy Traverse Interior
The Chevy Traverse with seating for eight is standard on the LS. The rest of the range has accommodation for seven, although eight seats are optional on the LT.
The difference is that a pair of captain’s seats in the second row replaces the 3-position bench seat.
It’s one of the few midsize 3-row SUVs that has enough room for an adult to sit in the very back row without nagging too much. The rear legroom is 33.5 inches, with 38.4 inches in the second row. Very good headroom throughout.
Chevrolet can’t get away from the occasional piece of cheap plastic in its interior, but the Traverse 2023 has a pleasant cabin in general. Along with 10 cup holders.
Cargo space is another Traverse strength, going from 23 cubic feet to a massive 98.2 cubic feet with rows two and three folded.
2023 Chevy Traverse Exterior
There’s a good reason the Traverse 2023 SUV is so spacious inside — big on the outside — it’s more than 17 feet long, about the same as most minivans. So it would be better to get a version with rear parking sensors.
The lower trim has 18-inch alloy wheels, replaced by 20-inch versions of the RS and up, although buyers of the new Traverse may opt for larger rims. Roof rails are optional on the base LS and standard elsewhere.
The LS and LT versions offer a Midnight and Sport cosmetic package with many exterior elements in black. The Premier trim qualifies for the Redline Edition package with similar black details, plus red accents on the wheels.
New paint options this year are Radiant Red Tintcoat and Sterling Gray Metallic.

The most affordable of the new Traverse SUVs is the LS trim, with 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights/daylights/taillights, keyless entry/ignition, 3-zone automatic climate control, upholstery, and rear seat reminders.
Safety systems include forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, lane guard assistance, distance following indicator, automatic high light, and Teen Driver feature.
The infotainment setup features a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto wireless smartphone integration, satellite radio, Wi-Fi, six USB ports (two per line), Bluetooth for two devices, and six speakers.
Factory Option
All-wheel drive is one of the main options across the Traverse 2023 SUV range. The safety package for the LS trim adds blind-spot monitoring with rear traffic warning and rear parking sensors. This is standard across the rest of the lineup.
The LT features a new steering wheel with audio/cruise control, wireless phone charging, heated mirrors, and eligibility for more options.
These include leather seats, heated front seats, a powered liftgate, rearview mirrors, 360-degree camera system, rear pedestrian warning, navigation, 8-inch touchscreen, adaptive cruise control, remote start, a 120-volt power outlet, and a dual-panel sunroof. , and a 10-speaker Bose audio system.
The RS has most of those things as standard (not a dual-panel sunroof), plus 20-inch alloy wheels and perforated leather upholstery.
Premier adds a configurable 8-inch driver information display, power-adjustable steering column, memory settings for driver’s seat/side mirrors/power-adjustable steering column, heated/ventilated front seats, heated outboard second-row seats, Safety Warning Seats, and hands-free tailgate operation.
The dual-panel sunroof finally made it off the options list with the High Country model, joining a foldable third row. And that sort of thing for this top trim.
Chevy Traverse 2023 Colors
According to a GM Authority source, the Chevy Traverse 2023 will remove Silver Ice Metallic (paint code GAN) and Cherry Red Tintcoat (paint code GSK) from the crossover’s range of paint options.
Silver Ice Metallic is available in all trim levels for the 2022 model year, while the Cherry Red Tintcoat costs an additional $495 and is available in all trim levels with the exception of the LS.
With the introduction of the Chevy Traverse 2023, these two paint options will be replaced with two new colors, namely Radiant Red Tintcoat (paint code GNT) and Sterling Gray Metallic (GXD).

2023 Traverse Release Date
2023 Chevy Traverse Release Date According to GM Authority sources, production of the Chevy Traverse 2023 is scheduled to begin on June 6, 2022.
Orders for the Chevy Traverse 2023 have been open since March 24. Production takes place at GM’s Lansing Delta Township Assembly facility in Michigan.

Starting with the LS trim and front-wheel drive, the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) on the 2023 Traverse SUV is $33,920, plus the destination cost. A front-drive, top trim High Country version is $51,400.
All-wheel drive costs vary by trim level but are at least $2,000.
Most 3-row SUV rivals—like the Kia Telluride, Hyundai Palisade, Toyota Highlander, Subaru Ascent, Volkswagen Atlas, Ford Explorer, and Nissan Pathfinder—start at the same financial average as the Traverse, sometimes a few grand or higher. The price of the Honda Pilot starts at around $38K.

The Chevy Traverse will launch in 2023 with a redesigned look and a higher starting price as the base L is dropped from the lineup and the Traverse LS now starts at $34,895.
The price is $3,900 higher than the starting price of the 2021 model, but only $500 more when comparing comparable trim levels.
The all-wheel drive Chevy Traverse 2023 is expected to come standard with front-wheel drive and a 3.6-liter V6, while all-wheel drive costs between $2,000 and $3,800 depending on equipment level.
The LT is one step above the LS and starts at $38,395 with upholstery or $42,095 with leather upholstery and other accessories.

2023 Chevrolet Traverse Engine
A standard 310-horsepower V-6 engine gives the Traverse its legs, and a nine-speed automatic transmission that can change gears unobtrusively. The V-6 pulls hard; a Traverse we tested proved to be faster in its class.
The cabin is so quiet that you need to glance at the tachometer to make sure the engine starts at a red light. By the way, the Traverse feature is probably the smoothest auto stop/start feature we’ve tested.
When parking or maneuvering at low speeds, the Traverse feels every part of its size. Get up to speed, though, and the big Chevy feels even smaller than him—ready, if not overly athletic.
Steering effort is low, but the system is precise and makes it easy to aim for the big SUV. The Traverse’s suspension is tuned for a fine balance of handling and ride comfort.
