2025 Chevy Traverse is a three-row midsize SUV. It sits above the two-row Blazer in Chevy’s lineup, and the larger Tahoe is available for customers who need more space. Unlike the truck-based Tahoe, the Traverse is more like a regular SUV, with a smoother ride and higher fuel economy. The High Country model is luxurious and well-equipped but too expensive for most buyers. Value-laden rivals like Kia Telluride and Subaru Ascent are better prepared, more efficient, and easier to live with. When we put together nine three-row SUVs for the fight, Traverse came in sixth.
That doesn’t mean Traverse is all bad. We love Chevy’s infotainment software, and the V-6’s powertrain is smooth and powerful.
Traverse 2025 has more room for third-row legs for larger families than most middle-class competitors. For some buyers, the profit may be proportional to the entry price. For everyone, Telluride and Ascent are waiting. In addition, the class leader brings more features and a higher-quality interior at a reduced price.

The 2025 Chevy Traverse already has an airy space by its side. After receiving an overhaul last year (this second generation debuted in 2018), the Traverse’s spacious space remains the Chevrolet 8-seater’s biggest attraction. That and the 310-horsepower V6.
Some of the other class members are newer and have better grades, so they attract more attention. In comparison, the Traverse 2023 looks like an ordinary SUV. But it’s detrimental.
Large families who go on road trips should be pleased with the amount of legroom and headroom in each row, plus ample cargo space while enjoying the muscular engine and noting how slowly the fuel gauge moves in the direction of E.
Fresh from last year’s face-lift, most of the returns are unchanged. A three-row mid-size crossover, Traverse fits snugly between a Blazer and a Tahoe. This is not without its strength, but the competition has passed through.

SpyShot: The Next-Gen Chevrolet Traverse Has Been Spotted
It may appear strange to be discussing the next-generation Chevrolet Traverse. The 2022 model received a facelift, implying that a new model is at least a couple of years away. The current Traverse 2025 platform, on the other hand, debuted in 2017 (as a 2018 model). COVID postponed the 2022 facelift, which was meant to happen in 2020.
This gets us to February 2023 and the prototype shown below, which was recently sighted on the streets of southeast Michigan. This is our first look at the next-generation Traverse, and we get the impression that designers are trying for a more rugged look. The overall design is still distinguishable as a Traverse, thanks to the high beltline and characteristic C-pillar spanning side windows.
The front clip appears to be bigger, with sharper lines and a broad face with a split grille. Placeholder lights sit atop mid-mount lights, although which will be the primary headlights is unknown.
This prototype appears to have a flatter roof from the side. The wheelbase could also be shortened in an attempt to differentiate it from the similarly sized Chevrolet Tahoe. There’s still enough in the back for a third row, which would be positioned ahead of a squared-off backside with a flatter lift gate. This test vehicle plainly has placeholder taillights, implying that the production version will have thinner, narrower lenses.
What’s going on beneath the new skin? At this early point, our espionage sources do not have information on powertrain details. The current 2025 Chevy Traverse has a 3.6-liter V6 engine with 310 horsepower and no hybrid option.
The presence of prominent exhaust outlets confirms the presence of internal combustion power on the next-generation offering, and there are certainly smaller turbocharged engines within the General Motors family that may replace the six-pot.
We’re similarly in the dark on the interior, though it’s safe to presume a major facelift with larger touchscreens will be included. To satisfy Traverse 2025 buyers, a cleaner style similar to the current Chevrolet Trailblazer may be in order, albeit with a more premium touch.
Given that this is our first look at a prototype, we may expect a premiere to be many months away. It’s feasible that we’ll see anything before the end of the year, but early 2024 is also a possibility. The new Chevrolet Traverse, whenever it arrives, will be a 2025 model-year vehicle.
2025 Chevy Traversee Z71 Models
A new 2.5-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine and a large 17.7-inch touchscreen are among the changes to Chevy’s three-row midsize crossover.
Three-row SUVs have become the car of choice for American suburban families, and Chevrolet anticipates that the market will become even more popular in the next five years. Chevy has announced the new Traverse, featuring aggressive looks, a more powerful powertrain, and a larger portfolio that now includes the off-road-focused Z71 model.
The Traverse 2025 model retains the boxy shape, high-mounted LED headlights (with the main headlights below), and the square grille of the previous crossover. Meanwhile, the 2024 model appears more aggressive thanks to a more athletic stance and wider grille, as well as LED taillights that match the L-shaped units on the Trax. Chevy didn’t provide specifics but told Car and Driver that the wheelbase remains the same at 120.9 inches.
The cabin has been completely redesigned, with a clean, coherent design centered on a new standard 17.7-inch touchscreen, a significant improvement over the previous Traverse’s 7.0- and 8.0-inch screens. Luckily, the Traverse still retains physical volume controls and climate control.
Standard features include an 11.0-inch digital gauge cluster and six USB connections, as well as a WiFi hotspot and wireless phone charger. A pass-through under the center console provides additional storage space.
The base LS trim comes standard with an eight-passenger setup, which is also available on the LT. Because of the second-row captain’s chairs, the top-of-the-range Z71 and RS only seat seven. The RS’s suspension has been tuned to be sportier, and a lighting animation plays when the owner approaches the vehicle with the keys. The LT and Z71 have a panoramic sunroof with a power sunroof, while the RS has it as standard.
The naturally aspirated 3.6-liter V-6 engine is replaced by a new 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine in the 2024 Traverse. The inline-four makes 315 horsepower, five more than the V-6, and torque is up 51 pounds-feet for a total of 317.
The engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, which replaces the previous nine-speed transmission. speed unit and the Traverse 2025 is available in front-wheel or all-wheel drive. Chevy claims the new engine has better fuel economy than the previous V-6, returning 21 mpg combined with front-wheel drive. The Traverse can tow up to 5,000 pounds depending on setup.
We’re offering the Traverse in the bolder Z71 trim level for the first time. The Z71 rides higher and has a slightly wider track, which Chevy says improves stability and handling. The front bumper is larger, with an aluminum skid plate and red tow hooks, and Chevy claims the Z71 has better approach angles than other Traverses.
The Z71 also has an off-road-specific dual-clutch all-wheel drive system, as well as special dampers with hydraulic rebound control that will help even out the ride over uneven terrain. The Z71 is equipped with a special Terrain mode, hill descent control, and a standard trailering kit, and rides on tough-looking 18-inch wheels shod in Goodyear Wrangler all-terrain rubber.
2025 Chevy Traverse Exterior
The 2025 Chevy Traverse is so vast inside – big on the outside – it’s over 17 feet long, about the same as most minivans. So it would be nice to get a version with rear parking sensors.
The lower trim had 18-inch alloy wheels, replaced by a 20-inch version of the RS and higher, although new Traverse buyers could opt for larger rims. Roofing rails are optional in basic LS and standard elsewhere.
The LS and LT versions offer Midnight and Sport cosmetic packages with many black exterior elements. Premier trim is eligible for the Redline Edition package with similar black details, plus red accents on the alloy wheels.
2025 Traverse Interior
Seating for eight people is standard in LS. The other range has accommodation for seven, although eight seats are optional in the LT. The difference is that a pair of captain’s seats in the second row replaces the 3-position bench seats.
It’s one of the few mid-sized 3-row SUVs that has enough space for adults to sit in the rear row without complaining too much. Rear legroom is 33.5 inches, with 38.4 inches in the second row. The headroom is great throughout.
Chevrolet can’t break away from the occasional cheap plastic cuts in its interior, but the 2023 Traverse has a generally pleasant cabin. Together with 10 cup holders.
Cargo space is another Traverse force, ranging from 23 cubic feet to 98.2 cubic feet with rows of two and three folded.
Traverse’s spacious cabin is one of its strongest selling points. Compared to the Kia Telluride, the Chevy Traverse 2025 offers more cargo capacity and third-row legroom.
2025 Chevy Traverse Tech
The 7.0-inch infotainment touchscreen is a standard feature on LS and LT Cloth trims. The RS trim (and above) gets a larger 8.0-inch screen and navigation.
Both come with Wi-Fi hotspots, USB ports in all three lines, and wireless compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Wireless charging is included in all but the basic trim. On the Premier and High Country models, the driver gets an 8.0-inch digital gauge cluster.

2025 Chevy Traverse Engine & Transmission
It looks a bit old-fashioned in the Chevy Traverse’s 2025 engine room, but there’s a solid 3.6-liter V6 that produces 310 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque without the aid of a turbocharger or supercharger.
This makes the Traverse one of the more muscular midsize SUVs.
Front-wheel drive (FWD) is the standard setting, with all-wheel drive (AWD) offered as an option at every trim level. The transmission task is handled by a 9-speed automatic. The maximum towing capacity is 5,000 pounds.
Ordinary gasoline is okay. These fuel economy estimates from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) are related to 2022, but we do not anticipate any changes for 2025.

2025 Chevy Traverse Performance
Traverse’s performance is adequate but, like many other vehicles in its segment, is by no means attractive.
The 3.6-liter V6 packs 310 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque, which beats the Kia Telluride (291 hp and 262 lb-ft), Honda Pilot (280 and 262), and Nissan Pathfinder (295 and 270).
Only the turbocharged 300-hp Ford Explorer outperforms the Traverse, with 310 lb-ft. Despite best-in-class standard horsepower, Traverse’s 5,000-pound (optional) tow limit ties the Pilot and Telluride and trails the Explorer (5,300 pounds) and Pathfinder (up to 6,000 pounds).
In the real world, the Chevy Traverse 2025 V6 and the nine-speed automatic work well together – power is gently built in even though the engine is responsive when given a full boot throttle.
The nine speeds move easily, but when walking, the focus is more on smoothness and refinement than quickly swapping gears.

Thank God, Chevy has finally listened to our constant complaints and offers a variety of active safety equipment standards. Every Traverse comes standard with Chevy Safety Assist, a Bowtie brand safety range.
These include front collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking working below 50 mph, lane guard assistance, and automatic high beams.
It still lags behind Honda and Toyota, which combine adaptive cruise control with their respective suites, but Chevy gets an A for its efforts.
The Traverse High Country, meanwhile, includes ACC, in addition to full-speed automatic emergency braking and blind spot monitoring with rear traffic cross warning (optional on lower models).
However, it doesn’t have any lane tracing or centering system, so driving Traverse on the highway is a more complicated affair even with adaptive sailing enabled.
NHTSA hasn’t tested Traverse since its face-lift, but the IIHS generally scores well in crash tests. The “Acceptable” rating in side collision testing kept Traverse from winning any safety awards.
Automatic emergency braking, track maintenance assistance, and automatic high beams are included in all models. Blind-spot monitors are optional on basic LS trim and standard elsewhere. The top trim gets adaptive cruise control, a surround-view camera, and a more advanced automatic emergency braking system.

2025 Chevy Traverse Price
2025 Chevy Traverse Starting with LS trim and front-wheel drive, the manufacturer’s recommended retail price (MSRP) on the Traverse SUV is $35,920, plus the cost of the destination.
