2024 Chevy Impala: 4-door muscle cars aren’t new, and the Impala SS isn’t a muscle car either, but it’s a niche market dominated by the Cadillac CT5-V, Chrysler 300C, and Dodge Charger, among others. Chevy could offer the 2024 Impala SS as an extended 4-door Camaro or revive the previous Impala platform with this new design.
The new Impala SS depicted in renderings retains the majority of the front end of the previous (10th) generation Impala, with the addition of Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat-inspired dual hood scoops and a more aggressive bumper arrangement than the departing car, as well as a subtle divider.
So far, so good, and the Impala’s long silhouette lends its practicality. Its dark green paint and blacked-out rear window highlight the vehicle’s newly acquired egress nature. At the rear, the flat trunk lid, LED headlamps, chunky bumper, and twin exhaust tips give the impression of a muscle car more than ever.
If you squint, you can envision a Tesla Model S or BMW 5-Series from behind, similar to the restrained design of the Impala SS rendering, which stays true to the nameplate’s sleeper design philosophy while injecting some muscle car styling DNA into the proceedings.
If Chevy were to bring back the Impala SS, it would feature a sport-tuned suspension and upgraded brakes, but the engine would be a Chevy LT4 6.2-liter supercharged V8 with 650 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission for easy cruising.
Chevrolet will discontinue the Impala in 2020 and has no plans to bring it back for the foreseeable future, which is not surprising given that the current sedan trend is waning, allowing the automaker to focus on the significantly more popular and lucrative SUVs and crossovers.

Most new car buyers just want crossovers, SUVs, and pickups these days, so that’s what the big names in the industry are focusing on, albeit at the expense of traditional sedans, and other once-popular body styles.
There’s a tall rider for every job these days, from dropping the kids off to school and grocery shopping to embarking on cross-country trips, hitting the drag strip, and even the local racetrack. But there was a time when such insanity was unimaginable, and we bet that certain people would use their big sedans to secretly get rid of any evidence, having illegally settled matters.
And speaking of models like that, we can’t forget the Chevrolet Impala, which was dropped after the 2020 model year, as well as the Jlord8, which began to imagine what could be done using a Cadillac CT6 as a blank canvas. The four premium doors retain their overall shape and feature a new face, borrowed from the tenth-generation Impala.
Things like the headlights, grille, and lower side bumper trim are from the defunct sedan, and so are the badges on the front doors, and the C-pillar. The taillights seem to be inspired by the Impala too, while the army profile is from the Caddy, except for the door handles and rearview mirrors, which are different, and a special badge on the lowered front fender.
Such a model is sure to be compatible with its entire premium sibling powertrain family, including the powerful 4.2-liter twin-turbo V8. However, if you forgot, the CT6 was also dropped from the US brand lineup, and since the sedan has lost significant ground to tall riders, don’t hold your breath for a new Impala any time soon.

This pixel master loves all vintage cars in general and has a special knack for GM products. Thus, he imaginatively revived many long-lost or forgotten signboards. And among the new digital life for America’s big sedan, there’s also a cool attempt to bring the iconic Chevy Impala SS back to life with more than a little help from a Cadillac CT6 land cruiser and some Chevy Camaro ZL1 DNA. While we love the digital impersonation, it seems some of the channel’s followers find it lacking in boldneSS, to put it mildly.

If about thirty years ago someone had said that crossovers would be one of the biggest-selling vehicle categories, they would have been hung up, tucked into the trunk of large sedans, and quietly thrown away.
Oh, how times have changed; SUVs are king, and traditional sedans are on the verge of extinction. Nameplates like the Taurus, Fusion, Chrysler 200, Sebring, Malibu, and Cruze have all seen the sharp edge of the axe. But it doesn’t have to be like this. My counterargument against the SUV brigade is the rebranding of the famous American nameplate – the venerable Chevrolet Impala.
Sure, it’ll disappear after the 2020 model year – but what if it made a comeback with muscular retro styling and rear-wheel drive substance? Let’s explore further illustratively. Unfortunately, the current Impala has all the charm of a mid-2000s Accord with some rather interesting rear fender folds, so you can’t blame passengers for choosing a crossover over this beige four-door that’s a faint shadow of its former self.
To address this, my research pays homage to the 1964 Impala’s 4-door hardtop with frameless windows and clean body lines while borrowing elements from the more curvy 1967 model. To take it to the future, Chevrolet’s street-inspired design language was used, with elements from the Camaro and Corvette incorporated into the metalwork.
The frontal styling is dominated by the shark-nosed grille, egg case, muscular hood, and square fenders. Panels like diagonal black switch bars run down from the hood to the door frames and incorporate hidden brake lines. The blackened A and C pillars exude a floating roof effect, while the side sculptures feature aggressive hamstrings and lower door scallops for visual dynamism.

There have been several rumors circulating that the Chevrolet Camaro will not live – at least in its current form – past 2023, which GM has neither confirmed nor denied. But what if that and the Impala returned on a new rear-wheel drive platform with lots of cutting-edge technology and driver assistance, and most importantly, electrification like Ford did with the Mustang Mach-E?
Such a move would provide greater economies of scale, and future-proof for the sustainable performance division of GM’s core car/crossover business in the same way that AMG did with its standalone model. As such, the Impala signage can move beyond rental agency food into something far more aspirational, and not a geriatric shadow of its former self.

New Chevy Impala 2024
We expect the next 11th-generation 2024 Impala to hit the market around the 2020-2021 model year if the model is approved for production and not canceled. Until then, we expect the current tenth-generation Impala to receive minor changes, updates, and improvements.

- Growth in Chevy’s midsize sedan offering, the Malibu, to close proportions to that of the Impala
- Certain comments by GM executives even recently put the future of the Impala into question. However, we don’t expect the Impala to be discontinued, as it would make fiscal sense for GM from economies of scale point of view to have a platform partner for the third-generation Buick LaCrosse.

2024 Chevy Impala SS Sport Modern
A digital artist has given their vision for a modern version of the iconic seventh-generation Chevy Impala SS.
The seventh-generation Impala SS is unique, in that it is not sold alongside the standard Impala version and is instead a high-performance Chevy Caprice version. The rear-wheel-drive sedan has now earned an adored following for its handsome mid-90s styling and standard 5.7L LT1 V8 engine, so this fan-made rendering should find plenty of fans among loyal fans of this seventh-generation Impala.
This rendering takes the general silhouette of the seventh-generation Impala SS and combines it with modern touches such as LED headlamps and daytime running lights, side skirts, large front air dams/intakes with a Chevy Camaro ZL1-style grille design, a “flow tie” Chevy bowtie and alloy wheels from Chevy Camaro ZL1. This rendering also incorporates a more stylish and modern-looking sheet metal along the side panels and doors.
We imagine this modern fictional Chevy Impala SS has the same powertrain as the Chevy Camaro ZL1. That will give it a supercharged 6.2L LT4 V8 engine that makes 650 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque, along with the standard six-speed manual transmission and the available 10-speed GM automatic.
Rear-wheel drive will of course be standard, while GM’s electronic limited-slip differential will help put all that power into the ground effectively. A rear-wheel-drive performance version of the Impala is not in GM’s future product plans, as the automaker discontinued the Impala a few years ago and has no intention of reviving the nameplate.
We certainly can’t forget the Holden Commodore-based Chevy SS sedan, which follows a very similar philosophy to the seventh-generation Impala SS, although it was only sold for a brief period between 2014 and 2017 and is no longer in production.
2024 Chevy Impala Engine
General Motors has nothing short of a powerful powertrain or two, and this research acknowledges the V8 Impala’s past as an electrified future. Let’s start with the basics; a proven 3.6-liter V6 engine with 320 horses and 280 pound-feet of torque will be a foot in the door to the range, followed by a 6.2-liter LT2 V8 plucked from the Corvette C8.
Using the latter unit can offer up to 495 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. Power will be sent to the rear wheels via an 8-speed Tremec dual-clutch gearbox. GM CEO Mary Barra has painted an all-electric future for the brand, and using electrification for the Impala could save big sedans, too.
High performance, dual motor setup, 100kWh battery pack, and a Tesla Model S that rivals 380 or more miles (over 610 km) could be the ticket for a rejuvenation of the market.
2024 Chevy Impala Platforms
It’s currently unknown which platforms will support the next-generation Impala if the vehicle continues to the 11th generation, but the two most obvious choices are:
The GM E2 platform is shared with the third-generation Buick LaCrosse, ninth-generation Chevrolet Malibu, and sixth-generation Buick Regal
The GM VSS-F platform (vehicle set) is shared with all other GM front-drive vehicles
Whatever platform the next Impala takes, it will feature a transversely mounted front engine driving the front wheels. All-wheel-drive could be an option.
