2025 Chevy Tahoe: All-New Full-Size 7-8 Passenger SUV Review

Posted on

2025 Chevy Tahoe is a full-size SUV, one of those truck-based behemoths with plenty of room to haul people and cargo and a large towing capacity. The Tahoe’s sturdy truck-based frame and muscular engine choices of two V-8s and a diesel inline-six make it the ultimate tow vehicle.

The new 2025 Tahoe Z71 model is well-equipped to tackle off-road trails. Its interior has three rows that can accommodate up to eight people and can be ordered relatively simply or almost luxuriously.

The 2025 Chevy Tahoe is displayed with large infotainment dominating the dashboard and slightly tilted towards the driver, especially with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto features both included. The 2025 Chevy Tahoe SUV will compete fiercely with its competitors, such as the Ford Expedition, Jeep Wagoneer, and Nissan Armada, which offer similar packages. Still, the Chevy’s sophistication on the highway is a bonus we appreciate, and we suspect other drivers will, too.

What’s New in 2025?

After launching for the 2021 model year, the fifth-generation 2025 Chevy Tahoe now receives changes that include styling revisions, a transmission selector shift (hooray), a larger cabin screen, a more comfortable standard suspension setup, and a more powerful diesel engine.

The Tahoe receives a mild styling refresh for 2025. The all-new 2025 Chevy Tahoe model has a revised dashboard with a new 17.7-inch infotainment touchscreen and 11.0-inch digital instrument cluster. Chevy’s V-8 engine offering remains the same as last year, but the optional inline-six diesel sees a power increase to 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque, an increase of 38 horses and 35 pound-feet.

Several new towing aids have been added to help drivers, including a tool that monitors the health of trailer tires. Chevy says the Tahoe’s suspension has been revised to provide more comfort, and air springs are now available on the RST trim instead of just the Z71 and High Country models. New wheel options have been launched across the range, including several 24-inch designs that are the largest ever fitted to a Tahoe.

2025 Chevy Tahoe Reviews

2025 Chevy Tahoe is an SUV that is designed for families and outdoor enthusiasts. This vehicle has been redesigned and refreshed to offer more style, comfort, and performance. The 2025 Chevy Tahoe comes with a new interior and exterior design, advanced engine options, and new features that make it a reliable and safe SUV.

The Chevy Tahoe has been a staple of the SUV market for decades and for good reason. With its combination of style, comfort, and performance, the Tahoe is the perfect vehicle for both adventure and family. Whether you’re driving across the country or just taking a weekend camping trip, the Tahoe offers everything you need to make your journey comfortable, safe, and memorable.

The Tahoe has always been a symbol of American ingenuity and innovation. It was first introduced in 1995 and has since become one of the most recognizable and respected SUVs on the market. The Tahoe has evolved over the years, with each iteration offering new and improved features that make it better than ever.

One of the things that sets the Tahoe apart is its size. It’s large enough to accommodate up to eight passengers comfortably, yet it’s still nimble enough to handle tight turns and narrow roads. With its spacious interior and ample cargo space, the Tahoe is perfect for families who need room to grow and for outdoor enthusiasts who need space for their gear.

The Chevrolet Tahoe and its larger counterpart, the Suburban, will be undergoing changes soon, and we have been given a sneak peek of what to expect from these updated full-size SUVs. As is typical for facelifts, the exterior changes are concentrated on the front and rear. These areas are heavily camouflaged, but upon closer examination, it appears that the new design will feature a dual-light configuration with separate headlights and daytime running lights, which is reminiscent of the Chevrolet Silverado.

2025 Chevy Tahoe

However, the 2025 Chevy Tahoe and Suburban will retain their own unique characteristics, and it seems that Chevy will be adding thin daytime lamps at the top, and headlights flanking the grille further down to further enhance this distinction. Although it will be distinctive, it will still complement the Silverado’s recent refresh, which debuted in 2022.

It is difficult to discern any changes to the grille, although the prominent center strips of chrome may be removed. While it appears to be slightly larger, the overall design should not deviate significantly from the current model. Additionally, there may be slight variations in the grille designs for different Tahoe trim levels. We are confident that this is a flashy High Country edition, as indicated by the visible deployable side steps and wheels, which are notable features of this posh trim level.

Identifying changes at the rear of the vehicle is more challenging. Heavy camouflage suggests significant design modifications may be made to the windows and rear gate, but it is also possible that the camouflage is a decoy. However, we can ascertain that new taillights are present beneath the covers, although their shape remains unknown.

Interestingly, the large cutouts in the covers for the exhaust tips reveal smaller openings in the lower fascia. This could be a temporary measure, or it may indicate that the rear bumper has been redesigned to accommodate new rectangular exhaust tips.

At present, there has been no news of any interior or powertrain modifications. We can see dash covers through the driver-side window, which may indicate more than just updated trim in the cabin.

When will we have a definitive answer? If this updated 2025 Chevy Tahoe is launched by the end of the year, it could be designated as a 2024 model. However, if it isn’t revealed until the end of 2023, it may be classified as a 2025 Tahoe. Nevertheless, we anticipate seeing something before the end of the year.

2025 Chevrolet Tahoe Refresh

The 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe is the latest version of the fifth-generation full-size SUV, which was completely redesigned in 2021. It is expected that the 2024 Tahoe will undergo a mid-cycle update, commonly known as a refresh.

Recently, GM Authority covered the refreshed 2024 GMC Yukon, and the 2024 GMC Yukon Denali Ultimate. Now, we have spotted another GM SUV, the refreshed 2024 Chevy Tahoe, being tested on public roads in prototype form.

The refreshed 2024 Chevy Tahoe will feature a new front fascia and modified rear fascia, which are currently concealed by thick camouflage on the prototype model. It’s worth noting that this prototype is of the sporty RST trim level.

Starting with the front of the vehicle, the prototype shows possible modifications to the top, and main headlights, although it is hard to confirm due to the camouflage. The front of the prototype also displays cutouts covered in camouflage, which could suggest the inclusion of a front-facing camera and GM Super Cruise semi-autonomous driver assist system.

Regarding the roof, the refreshed 2024 Chevy Tahoe appears to have a different antenna compared to the current model, with a bubble or cap shape instead of the shark fin shape.

On the sides, the profile of the 2024 Chevy Tahoe seems to be identical to the current model, with the same window and roofline. However, at the back of the prototype, we can notice a few more changes.

Similar to the current Chevy Tahoe RST, the refreshed 2024 prototype also features an exhaust treatment that is hidden under the vehicle. However, the rest of the rear bumper on this prototype seems to be new. Additionally, the rear reflector strips have been moved lower down the bumper and closer to the sides.

As previously reported by GM Authority, the Chevy Tahoe has outperformed its competitors in sales, selling 106,030 units last year, an increase of over 20 percent compared to the 88,238 units sold in 2020.

Despite the competition’s efforts, such as Ford’s 2022 Expedition refresh, Jeep’s 2022 Wagoneer debut, and Toyota’s Sequoia overhaul, GM is not lagging behind, as demonstrated by the refreshed 2024 Chevy Tahoe.

Report

Debuting a mid-cycle refresh for the full-size Bow Tie SUV nameplate, the 2025 Chevy Tahoe introduces fresh truck-inspired exterior styling, an overhauled interior, new technologies, and a new diesel engine option. Here, GM Authority provides a complete overview of the pricing of the various levels and configurations of the 2025 Chevy Tahoe, along with pricing for various optional packages, features, and extras.

Other changes to the 2025 Chevy Tahoe include three paint colors being removed from the available palette: Empire Beige Metallic (color code GJW), Midnight Blue Metallic (GLU), and Silver Sage Metallic (G6N). Cypress Gray (GBD) and Lakeshore Blue Metallic (GXP) have indirectly replaced these colors.

GM kept the RST Performance Edition package (RPO code WPK) for the 2025 model year. You can find a full breakdown of the 2025 Tahoe’s standard features in a previous GM Authority post. Additionally, engine availability has been updated, with available powerplants including a naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine producing 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, a naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine producing 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, and a new-for-2025 Duramax turbodiesel 3.0L I6 LZ0 engine providing 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque.

2025 Chevy Tahoe Exterior

2025 Chevy Tahoe Coming in at 17.5 feet long, the Tahoe full-size SUV occupies the same space as the Ford Expedition. That’s big. But we think big is beautiful in this case. The styling changes for 2025 are subtle. But fans of big wheels will be happy that the 2025 Tahoe offers large 24-inch alloy wheels.

The 2025 Chevy Tahoe has a more aggressive and muscular design than its predecessor. It comes with a larger grille, sleek headlights, and a more angular front end. The body of the SUV is wider, and it sits lower to the ground, giving it a more athletic stance.

The side profile of the Tahoe is more streamlined, with a sloping roofline and sharp lines that run the length of the vehicle. The rear of the Tahoe has a new taillight design and a more prominent spoiler that adds to its sporty look.

2025 Tahoe Interior

The full-size 2025 Chevy Tahoe offers a large interior, with open spaces that feel like acres compared to smaller mid-size SUVs. Three rows of seats are standard features, and the second-row seats slide forward and backward to provide flexibility that allows adults to sit comfortably on the way home.

A wide center console provides plenty of storage for smartphones, drinks, wallets, and keys, and a large storage bin under the center armrest can fit a wallet or small backpack. While the entry-level LS model lacks luxury features, the mid and top trims are better equipped with desirable options, including a power rear trunk door, second-row captain’s chairs, a power-adjustable steering column, and more.

Changes to the 2025 Chevy Tahoe include an 11-inch digital instrument cluster, while the infotainment touchscreen increases in size to 17.7 inches. Both are standard equipment across the range.

The 2025 Chevy Tahoe has a super spacious interior, with a maximum legroom of 42 inches in the second sliding row and 34.9 inches in the third row. The cargo area is also huge, ranging from 25.5 to 122.9 cubic feet. In comparison, the Ford Expedition goes from 20.9 to 104.6 cubic feet. If that’s still not enough, the longer Chevy Suburban maxes out at 144.7 cubic feet.

One of the few options in the base 2025 Chevy Tahoe LS is a bench for 3 people in the front row, turning the Tahoe SUV into a 9-seater. The LT, RST, and Z71 versions can seat eight people, with an optional pair of captain’s chairs for the second row.

The top-spec 2025 Chevy Tahoe High Country model uses real wood trim, perforated leather seats, and an exclusive interior color scheme. The Tahoe’s interior packaging also provides a low, flat load floor thanks to its independent rear suspension; the cargo area with the second and third rows folds the balloon to 123 cubic feet. We managed to fit six carry-on suitcases behind the third row.

The 2025 Chevy Tahoe Premier and High Country models have those seats as standard and, therefore, exclusively seat 7. This most expensive trim has a powered mobile center console with 10 inches of front-to-back travel. It includes secure storage, cup holders, and a sliding armrest. It is also optional in the lower trims, except the LS.

Tahoe 2025 Interior

The 2025 Chevy Tahoe has a redesigned interior that is more spacious and luxurious than the previous model. The cabin is roomier, with more legroom and headroom for passengers.

2025 Chevy Tahoe

The seats are upholstered in premium leather, and they are heated and ventilated. The SUV comes with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a large infotainment display that is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The cabin is equipped with a 10-speaker Bose sound system, a wireless charging pad, and a panoramic sunroof.

Infotainment and Connectivity

All 2025 Chevy Tahoe models are equipped with a 17.7-inch infotainment touchscreen that is slightly angled towards the driver for easy access to radio, navigation, phone, and other functions. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Wi-Fi hotspot, and a wireless smartphone charging pad are all included.

In addition to the infotainment display, the 2025 Tahoe is equipped with an 11.0-inch digital instrument cluster. A Bose stereo system and a rear seat entertainment system with two screens mounted behind the front seats are optional.

Features and Technology

Apple CarPlay Wireless/Android Auto

The ability to connect a smartphone to a vehicle’s infotainment system is amazing but currently underrated. The Chevy Tahoe gets even better because it doesn’t require a cable connection, so that users can keep their phone in their pocket or purse.

Infotainment touchscreen

Every new Tahoe has a 17.7-inch high-resolution screen, which gives the cabin a more tech-rich feel. We also like the infotainment system, which we found easy to use.

Hands-free rear door

It’s standard across the range except for the base LS trim; this is a welcome feature when your hands are full, or you have a million other things to do.

Super Cruise

This is an optional hands-free and foot-free driving feature. But the driver must still pay attention. Nevertheless, it helps ease the burden of long freeways. The system works on more than 400,000 miles of divided highways in the United States and Canada.

Connected Camera

This new feature on the 2025 Tahoe allows owners to view the interior and exterior remotely. It can also carry footage of auto collision and dashboard cameras.

Trailer technology

Tahoe makes towing easier with features like Boat Ramp Assist and Trailer Navigation – which determines the best route based on trailer size.

2025 Chevy Tahoe Engine

The 2025 Chevy Tahoe model lineup will be even more capable. Under the hood, there will be a V-8 engine, either a 355-hp 5.3-liter or 420-hp 6.2-liter paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard on most models, and all-wheel drive is optional.

2025 Chevy Tahoe A 3.0-liter inline-six diesel engine is optional and produces 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque. The diesel engine has the same 10-speed automatic and can be ordered in every trim. The off-road-oriented Tahoe Z71 has a two-speed transfer case that provides traditional four-wheel drive, 20-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires, and underbody protection.

Test stages were conducted on a pre-facelift Tahoe Z71 with a 5.3-liter V-8 engine, and found that the car had adequate acceleration, a firm brake pedal, and a very quiet cabin at highway speeds. The Z71 can be ordered with an air spring suspension system that allows the driver to raise or lower the Tahoe’s ride height, a useful feature for traversing off-road obstacles.

This suspension is also an option for the RST and High Country models. When we test the Tahoe 2025, we will update this story with driving impressions and test results.

Transmission

The base engine for the 2025 Tahoe SUV lineup is a naturally aspirated 5.3-liter V8 (no turbo or the like) that produces 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. The RST, Z71, and Premier trims offer the option of a 6.2-liter V8 engine that produces 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. This is also standard on the top High Country trim.

Another option in addition to the 2025 Chevy Tahoe Z71 is a 3.0-liter turbocharged diesel inline six-cylinder engine, upgraded in 2025 to produce 305 horsepower and 495 lb-ft of torque. All three engines are connected to a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Rear-wheel drive is the standard setup, with 4-wheel drive on the options list or standard in the Z71. The rear-drive version with the smaller V8 engine achieves a maximum towing capacity of 8,400 pounds.

Performance

The Tahoe’s base engine is a V8, producing 355 horsepower. We might be tempted to opt for the optional 420 horsepower V8, but the base unit is the most popular choice and is powerful in most situations. Chevrolet hasn’t upped the output level of this gasoline engine for the 2025 refresh but has given more power to the optional 6-cylinder diesel, now developing 305 horsepower and a massive 495 lb-ft of torque, and it’s the torque that creates the thrust.

Another change Chevy has made is in the suspension, which aims to make the ride quality more comfortable. We thought it was good before. The RST version gets air suspension (previously only available on the High Country and Z71).

On the other hand, users can maximize the Magnetic Ride Control suspension (standard on the top two trims, optional on RST and Z71), which increases the comfort and quietness of this full-size SUV. The latest is the 2025 Chevy Tahoe, with the gear selector now a stalk on the steering column. This is much more intuitive and ergonomic than the push-button method used previously.

The 2025 Chevy Tahoe comes with a choice of three engines, including a 5.3-liter V8, a 6.2-liter V8, and a 3.0-liter Duramax diesel engine. The 5.3-liter V8 produces 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque, while the 6.2-liter V8 produces 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque.

The 2025 Chevy Tahoe 3.0-liter Duramax diesel engine produces 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. All engines are mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission, and they come with rear-wheel or four-wheel drive. The 2025 Chevy Tahoe has a maximum towing capacity of up to 8,400 pounds, making it an excellent choice for towing boats or trailers.

MPG

The EPA has not released fuel economy estimates for the 2025 Tahoe, but we suspect the numbers may not change from last year’s model. For 2024, the most fuel-efficient Tahoe is the diesel, which scores 21 mpg city and 28 mpg highway ratings. The standard 5.3-liter V-8 is expected to be slightly more efficient in the city than the optional 6.2-liter V-8, but both are rated up to 20 mpg on the highway.

Towing and Payload Capacity

In addition to having enough space for eight passengers, the 2025 Chevy Tahoe can also tow up to 8,400 pounds, about the same as some full-size pickup trucks.

However, the Tahoe must be equipped with rear-wheel drive and a 5.3-liter V-8 engine to do this. Ordering the 6.2-liter V-8 lowers the maximum tow rating to 8300 pounds; with the diesel engine, the Tahoe can tow up to 8,200 pounds.

Trim Models

Table: https://www.autonationchevroletdoral.com/models/2025-chevrolet-tahoe

Rivals like the GMC Yukon, Ford Expedition, Toyota Sequoia, Nissan Armada, and Jeep Wagoneer generally fall into the same price bracket. The Expedition slightly undercuts the Tahoe, and the Wagoneer starts higher. The 2025 Chevy Suburban retails for $63,495.

The 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe starts at $60,495. That’s for the base LS trim with rear-wheel drive. Consider about $3,000 for 4-wheel drive. The Z71 and Premier models are big sellers, and the top High Country trim flirts with Escalade price territory.

Tahoe LS $60,495
Tahoe LT $63,695
Tahoe 1 $68,495
Tahoe Z71 $70,495
Prime Minister Tahoe $75,095
High Country Tahoe $80,195

The 2025 Chevy Tahoe SUV also comes with a Teen Driver system that allows parents to set speed and volume limits for their teenage drivers.

2025 Tahoe Price

The 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe price starts at $60,495 and goes up to $80,195, depending on the trim and options. In our opinion, the mid-level RST and Z71 models offer the best value, with the former being more flashy and the latter aimed at adventurous folks who take the occasional off-road trip. We prefer the Z71’s standard four-wheel drive, rugged looks, and exclusive off-road equipment. We also upgraded from the standard 5.3-liter V-8 to the optional 6.2-liter V-8, which delivers 65 horsepower.
