2022 Chevy Suburban: The Latest Chevy Suburban Rendering Update
2022 Chevy Suburban Up-to-date information Chevy has completely updated its oldest nameplate with the all-new 2022 Suburban and we think it’s bigger and better than ever. It shares a lot with the redesigned Chevy Tahoe but this time it is the extra length and the newly adopted independent rear suspension brings more cargo and third-row space.
These features make it the largest Burban SUV wearing a bow tie and a serious contender for big alternatives like the Ford Expedition Max. In addition to the familiar V-8 engine, Chevy now includes a large torque diesel option.
Of course, it also offers much mandatory paraphernalia such as contemporary driver assistance and countless infotainment features.
The 2020 Suburban is likely to introduce a new generation which has significant improvements. The most important update is the SUV’s first independent rear suspension.
This allows for much better interior packaging which frees up space in the cargo area and third row. The 2022 Suburban is also longer than ever and this time it is also equipped with more technology than ever.
This includes the latest features in first-time equipment such as the air suspension and the downsized Duramax diesel engine.
2022 Chevy Suburban Rendering
General Motors’ next-generation 2022 Suburban SUV is finally down, but sadly, the current lineup doesn’t include a high-performance variant.
Sure, we see this as an opportunity to dream up our own version of the hot-to-trot GM SUV, which previously posted our digital renderings for the 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe SS. Now we apply the same fast gloss to the Burban and the result is this 2022 Chevy Suburban SS.
Like the Tahoe SS we published earlier, there are currently no official plans for the Chevy Suburban SS, with some discussion surrounding the vehicle’s prospects, but none yet approved. Therefore, we present this for fun only.
So, the question is this – what does our 2022 Chevy Suburban SS have to offer?
For starters, it looks like part of performance utility thanks to its lower stature, with the body bending over-large alloy wheels wrapped in performance rubber.
Judging from the upcoming updates the wheels and tires are both wider than a standard Chevy Suburban in general and come with a black finish that complements several black accents all over.
The grille is blackened, as is the running board, the latter doubles up as side skirts for aero purposes. Roof rails and DLO maintenance are also black. An SS badge can be found on the door, and a quad exhaust pipe is mounted on the rear.
2022 Chevy Suburban Interior
During the last two Truck of the Year competitions, most GM products were omitted because of their no-frills, loveless interior, and worse than the competition. I know: Real men don’t care about a great interior! Barbed wire chairs for all! However design is one of the criteria we use to evaluate competitors of the Year, and while writing this article someone texted me saying, “Bought a Laramie Ram 1500 Ram 2020. Couldn’t find a better luxury truck.”
To date, the GMT1XX platform has graced us with an interior that can be described as suboptimal. Sad, but true. The Suburban is a step up from the Silverado pickup, but not nearly as good as it could be for a vehicle at this price.
Scanning press material, Chevy claims the new Tahoes (a shorter version of the Suburban) and the Suburban are $ 3,000 to $ 4,000 cheaper than competitors (meaning, Ford). Hey Chevy, spend the extra cash: Expedition’s interior is of higher quality, both in terms of appearance and quality of materials. Also, the Silverado driver’s seat can be a lot more comfortable.
Compared to its predecessor, the cargo and passenger space of the new Suburban 2022 is much larger. The second and third rows have a few more inches of legroom left, and the second-row seats add adjustments so they can slide forwards and backward now.
The Suburban cargo area also increased by 23 cubic feet (145 total); flatter and lower load floors, thanks to the new Suburban design and independent rear suspension. Most of its popular options like cordless phone charging and heated and ventilated seats were previously available, but the head-up display and digital meter cluster display is bigger than ever.
Transporting a modern family also requires entertainment, and the Suburban 2022 doesn’t lack infotainment and connectivity features. Together with an optional rear-seat entertainment system that includes two 12.6-inch displays mounted behind the front seats, each model has multiple charging ports throughout the cab and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
Additionally, the standard 10-inch touchscreen attaches to the center stack and supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities.
2022 Chevy Suburban Engine
The main part is the supercharged 6.2L V8 LT4 engine, which hits the pavement in a 4WD grip. The suspension gets Magnetic Ride Control and Air Ride Adaptive Suspension for lower height and better handling.
As a reminder, the standard Chevrolet Suburban has been reengineered and redesigned for the 2022 model year, entering as the 12th generation for the nameplate. Customers are offered three engine options, including the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84, the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87, and the 3.0L I6 LM2 Duramax turbodiesel.
The new Chevy Suburban is built on an all-new T1 platform and is manufactured at GM’s Arlington plant in Arlington, Texas. Production started earlier this month.
Then a pair of V-8s and six-cylinder diesel complete the Suburban engine lineup. All of them are connected to a 10-speed automatic transmission and rear or all-wheel drive. A 355-hp 5.3-liter V-8 is the default engine on all but the top-tier High Country models. It gets a standard 420-hp 6.2-liter V-8, but can also be equipped with an optional 3.0-liter six-cylinder diesel engine.
While the latter only pumps 277 horses, its 460 lb-ft of torque is the same as that of the larger V-8. The Suburban 2022 can also be equipped with adaptive dampers and adjustable air suspension. The latter allows the Suburban vehicle’s height to be lowered or raised automatically and manually.
This allows for increased passenger accessibility, aerodynamics, and ground clearance. Those looking for a sporty style such as blackened exterior trim and 22-inch wheels should check out the RST model. The trim-level Z71 looks tougher and features 20-inch wheels clad in all-terrain tires, skid plates on the underbody, and a two-speed transfer box that provides the traditional four-wheel drive.
2022 Chevy Suburban MPG
According to the EPA, the larger Suburban will offer the same fuel economy figures as the shorter Tahoe, with the 5.3-liter V-8 producing a city rating of 16 mpg, highway 20 mpg, and a combined 18 mpg.
Stepping up to the 6.2-liter V-8 engine drops fuel economy by just a tiny bit, being a 15 mpg city, 20 mpg highway, and 17 mpg combination in the rear-wheel-drive example. The optional diesel engine will likely still be the strongest, but the EPA has not released an estimate for that engine.
Both gas-only powertrains employ fuel-efficient technology that includes automatic stop/start and cylinder deactivation. Once we were able to test all new Suburban models on our 200-mile highway route, we were able to evaluate their real-world mpg.
2022 Chevy Suburban Price and Release Date
Suburban Chevy 2022 cars will go on sale in mid-2021, but this is still speculation because we are again in the era of the COVID-19 pandemic. We will recommend the RST model. Unlike before, this is no longer the high-priced, high-performance Suburban.
Instead, it’s mostly a sporty look package that can also be fitted with a diesel engine. We’ll choose the latter to replace the standard 355-hp V-8 and add an all-wheel drive.
