All-New 2025 Chevy Suburban Large Family SUV Review

Posted on

2025 Chevy Suburban is the fifth model year of the 12th-generation full-size SUV, and it receives a mid-cycle update, sometimes known as a refresh. This revision follows the total overhaul (re-engineering and redesign) of the 2021 Suburban, which was followed by minor improvements to the 2022 Suburban, 2023 Suburban, and 2024 Suburban.

Since 1935, Chevrolet’s XXL Suburban SUV has been transporting people and cargo across America. Aside from its mature station wagon proportions and truck-based chassis, the tech-laden and opulent 2025 iteration bears little resemblance to the primitive Carryall cars that gave rise to the nameplate.

The modern Suburban boasts three rows of seats that can accommodate up to eight people, an infotainment system with an internet connection, a strong maximum towing capacity, a smooth on-road demeanor, and a plethora of luxury features.

While it shares a basis with the shorter Tahoe SUV, the Suburban’s longer wheelbase allows for additional interior space for people and cargo. There are two gasoline-fired V-8 engines available, as well as a diesel inline-six, both of which are linked to a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Although the Suburban has the most history, other large SUVs such as the Ford Expedition Max and the Jeep Wagoneer L are formidable competitors. Those other large lugs aren’t as graceful on the road as the Suburban, but both can haul heftier trailers.

2025 Chevy Suburban Reviews

With one of the oldest model nameplates still rolling around, the 2025 Chevrolet Suburban SUV doesn’t do much to rock that boat. Only mildly refreshed, it remains gigantic and boxy—the longer-wheelbase version of the Tahoe. Upgrades include an improved diesel option and a more modernized interior.

All of the Suburban’s six trims benefit from an updated front fascia with slimmer DRLs. Premier and High Country Suburbans get new walk-up and walk-away light animations as standard. Plus, Chevy is introducing two new exterior colors: Lakeshore Blue Metallic and Cypress Gray. Finally, new and optional 24-inch wheels can be fitted to RST and High Country trims.

We’ve dinged the current Suburban’s interior as being “just OK,” but the good news is the 2025 cabin has been touched up to remain competitive. The standard 17.7-inch infotainment screen is tilted slightly at the driver for easier access. Other interior additions include a repositioned wireless charging pad for more convenience, red stitching on RST models, piano black and Galvano chrome finishes on certain trims, and real wood in the High Country trim, a Suburban first.

Our other driving impressions of the outgoing Suburban criticized its willowy suspension but praised its surprising agility. These two aspects should both see improvement, as the multilink independent rear suspension has been updated to benefit the handling and ride quality. Air Ride Adaptive Suspension makes its way to the RST trim for the first time, while Magnetic Ride Control has been updated to be more refined, as well. The steering, too, has been enhanced for more driver confidence, so all in all, the refreshed Suburban should drive and ride better.

Powertrains remain largely the same. The 5.3-liter V-8 is standard on the LS, LT, RST, Z71, and Premier trims, while the 6.2-liter V-8 is standard on the High Country and optional on the RST, Z71, and Premier. However, the old, 277-hp turbodiesel has been replaced by the new second-gen 3.0-liter Duramax turbodiesel that now produces 305 horsepower and 495 lb-ft of torque. You can get that on all six trims, even the Z71, which is a first. Towing capacity remains the same at 8,200 pounds.

Super Cruise remains an option but is now compatible with LT and RST trims in addition to the Premier and High Country trims. The AutoSense Power Liftgate will now open when it senses the key fob nearby instead of just requiring you to kick your foot beneath the rear bumper. Chevy didn’t announce 2025 Suburban pricing at this time, but you can expect to hear more when the revised SUV goes on sale late next year.

2025 Chevy Suburban

What’s new

A stylistic overhaul and interior upgrades offer the 2025 Suburban a new face. Chevy’s largest SUV now comes standard with a new 17.7-inch infotainment system, a new 11.0-inch digital gauge display, new towing-assist features, expanded availability of GM’s Super Cruise hands-free driving system, new wheel designs (including some massive 24-inch rollers), and chassis improvements to improve ride comfort and handling. The optional diesel inline-six gains power, producing 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque, but the Suburban’s V-8 gasoline engines remain unaltered.

2025 Chevy Suburban Updates

The Chevrolet Tahoe is a mainstay of the Bowtie SUV series. It’s been on the market in some form or another since the 1995 model year, and for its 30th anniversary, the fifth-generation car is getting a significant facelift. The Suburban, its larger sibling, receives the same set of enhancements. Because they are so closely related, everything new applies to both SUVs.

The outward changes are the most noticeable, with the 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban receiving reprofiled front and back fascias, updated headlights (following the design motif seen on other Chevy SUVs), and a small reworking of the taillights. The final big outward change is new wheel designs, the largest of which measures 24(!) inches. We were impressed with the improvements after seeing them in person, and we believe they make for a more attractive interpretation of these two SUVs’ twinned forms.

2025 Chevy Suburban Changes

Other enhancements cannot be seen with the naked eye. Chevy claims that the adjustments to the multilink rear suspension, combined with improved steering calibration, will result in a smoother ride without making either 2025 Chevy Suburban SUV excessively soft and willowy through turns. Air suspension is back as an option, and the adaptive dampers have a new calibration. These Magnetic Ride Control dampers, according to Chevy, constantly monitor the road’s surface (refreshing 1,000 times per second) and stiffen or slacken each SUV’s ride nearly quickly to assist in reducing pitch/roll and remove vibrations that resonate in a huge SUV like these two.

Both the Tahoe and Suburban are getting minor updates for 2025. The optional 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder diesel engine produces more power (305 hp and 495 lb-ft torque, up from 277 hp and 460 lb-ft torque) and is now available in the off-road-oriented Z71 model. The only caveat is that it won’t be available until the 2025 calendar year, so you won’t see it when these updated SUVs arrive at dealers at the end of 2024.

The Tahoe and Suburban’s other engine options remain completely unaltered. The standard engine in the LS, LT, RST, Z71, and Premier grades is a 5.3-liter V8 that produces 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. The larger 2025 Chevy Suburban 6.2-liter V8 is standard on High Country models, but it is optional on RST, Z71, and Premier trims. It generates 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. All engines are mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission and give power to either the rear wheels or all four.

2025 Chevrolet Suburban EV

In a post that we found on a community forum dedicated to Silverado EV owners and enthusiasts (Silveradoevforum.com), a member with the username “ChargedSilvE” shared a sighting of the EPIC Chevrolet Suburban EV 2025.

2025 Chevy Suburban

“Here’s what the all-electric Chevrolet Suburban SUV should look like when it arrives in 2025, clearly with a lot of Silverado EV pickup design influence. The final production version should hopefully not look as cookie cutter and get some unique design. For now, I think this does well at showing what to expect. What does everyone think?”

This post received a lot of positive comments, and we hope that the 2025 Chevrolet Suburban EV will continue to improve and be appreciated by its fans.

The car will feature more sculpted lines and a sleeker profile than previous models. Additionally, the exterior will be available in several new colors, including Empire Beige Metallic, Darkmoon Blue Metallic, and Cherry Red Tintcoat.

2025 Suburban Redesign

The GM division began production of the Suburban in 1934 for the 1935 model year, which was originally one of the first metal-bodied station wagons and also the ancestor of contemporary full-size pickup trucks as it combined design, practicality, and the allure of a station wagon body style with toughness, the reliability, and awesomeness inherent in traditional pickup trucks.

It has been twinned with its GMC sibling – renamed the Yukon XL since 2000 and is currently sold outside North America in places such as Central and South America, the Philippines, and even some parts of the Middle East.

2025 Chevy Suburban Rendering2025 Chevy Suburban Rendering

Naturally, over time it has grown tremendously, and even Cadillac decided to bring the Suburban into the fold with help from a twin version of the Caddy Escalade ESV.

In any case, the current generation – the twelfth – has been around since December 2019 (official initial presentation), and however, the siblings also took to the catwalks in January (GMC Yukon XL), February (Cadillac Escalade), and April 2020 (Escalade ESV ), Chevy’s newest and arguably greatest variant of the Suburban reached nationwide dealerships that summer (June) as the 2021 model year.

Of course, today’s Suburban shares the same foundation – the GMT T1XX platform – as the Silverado 1500 pickup truck, and this Chevrolet is one of the largest full-size SUVs on the market today. At 225.7 in/5,733 mm, it’s only ‘warmed’ by a few nameplates – the Jeep Grand Wagoneer L and its sibling Caddy Escalade ESV.

But, of course, even giants need to powder their faces from time to time. As such, we’ve seen hints that General Motors is diligently preparing for facelifts for its large, large SUVs, including the Tahoe and Suburban.

2025 Chevy Suburban Specs

The 2025 Chevy Suburban offers an impressive set of specifications. The car is powered by a 6.2-liter V8 engine that produces 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. This engine is paired with a ten-speed automatic transmission, which offers smooth and efficient shifting. The car has a towing capacity of up to 8,300 pounds, making it an ideal choice for those who need to tow heavy loads.

The car’s dimensions are equally impressive, with a length of 225.7 inches, a width of 80.5 inches, and a height of 75.7 inches. The car has a wheelbase of 134.1 inches, providing ample legroom and headroom for passengers. The car’s cargo capacity is also impressive, with up to 144.7 cubic feet of cargo space when the rear seats are folded down.

2025 Chevy Suburban Refresh

The 2025 Chevy Suburban has undergone a significant redesign and refresh. The car features a new and more aggressive front-end design, with a larger grille and sharper headlights. The car’s body has also been updated, with The car’s interior having also received a refresh, with an emphasis on comfort and convenience.

2025 Chevy Suburban

The car features a new infotainment system with a 10.2-inch touchscreen display, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto compatibility. The car also features a new digital instrument cluster and a 12.6-inch rear-seat entertainment system. The car’s seats are upholstered in high-quality leather, and the car’s cabin is quieter and more comfortable than ever before.

2025 Chevy Suburban Interior

Though the engines haven’t changed much, the front half of the Suburban/Tahoe’s cabin has been completely redesigned. With its dual-screen layout and updated steering wheel, the dashboard now resembles that of the Chevrolet Blazer EV. The new instrument panel screen is 11 inches in size, while the center screen expands from 10.2 inches to 17.7 inches. It will also receive a new software suite based on Google’s Android operating system.

The rest of the cabin’s design hasn’t altered much, but the much-improved dash, as well as the new screen, make a big impression. It has a high resolution and can display menus, maps, and other information with high visual fidelity. Fortunately, Chevy hasn’t crammed everything into those menus, and there are still tactile climate controls.

The center console has been somewhat redesigned as well, with a new storage structure and a repositioned wireless charging station. The transmission selector buttons have also been removed, and a more traditional column-mounted shifter has been installed in their place.

The Suburban, as one of the largest SUVs, has a spacious cabin with plenty of capacity for both people and baggage. The three rows of seats can accommodate up to eight passengers seven with the optional second-row captain’s chairs and there’s enough legroom for almost everyone to find a comfortable position even in the back row, especially since the second-row seats can move fore and aft to alter the passenger space. Behind the third row is a big cargo space that can easily accommodate a family’s road trip necessities.

The load floor is flat and low, which makes loading and unloading easier than in competitors with higher levels. Entry-level versions are, understandably, plainer than those at the higher end of the range, but Chevy nonetheless outfits them with essential and convenient amenities like automatic climate control, multiple power outlets, easy-fold second-and third-row seats, and more.

The High Country variant is the most opulent, featuring exquisite wood trim and perforated leather upholstery, as well as unique interior color combinations.

2025 Chevy Suburban Tech

The revamp also prioritized technological advancements. Google Assistant is now the Tahoe and Suburban’s built-in voice assistant, and there’s standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (remember, phone mirroring is something General Motors has begun to phase out of its newer products, but we’re thankful the refresh hasn’t removed these features). A surround-view camera, a head-up display, and a dash-cam that uploads recorded footage to a cloud-based file system are among the high-tech possibilities.
In terms of safety technology, the Tahoe and Suburban will come standard with Chevy Safety Assist, a package of active and passive safety features. Automatic emergency braking, forward collision alert, lane keeping assistance with lane departure warning, front pedestrian and bicyclist braking, and automatic high beams are all included. There is also a new trailer tire health indicator, a boat ramp assist feature, and a system that will show guidelines for both the trailer and the SUV.

2025 Chevy Suburban Connectivity and infotainment

Fans of large screens will find two on the dashboard of each Suburban. In front of the driver is an 11.0-inch digital instrument cluster, and a larger 17.7-inch infotainment display takes center stage. The main display is slightly tilted toward the driver to facilitate access to the system’s functionalities. A Wi-Fi hotspot and a wireless smartphone charging pad are standard, as are Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Optional options include a Bose audio and a rear-seat entertainment system.

2025 Chevy Suburban Seating

The 2025 Suburban is available in two seating combinations, seven or eight passengers. Seven-passenger arrangement (2-2-3): this layout includes front bucket seats (for two), captain’s chairs in the second row (for two), and a bench seat in the third row (for three).
Eight-passenger arrangement (2-3-3): this layout includes front bucket seats (which sit two), a bench seat in the second row (which seats three), and a bench seat in the third row (which also seats three).

2025 Chevy Suburban Color

The 2025 Chevy Suburban is available in several new and exciting colors. Some of the new color options include Empire Beige Metallic, Darkmoon Blue Metallic, Cherry Red Tintcoat, and Iron Gray Metallic. The car’s exterior color can be customized to fit your preferences, with several different color combinations available.

2025 Chevy Suburban Engine

available. A 305-hp diesel 3.0-liter inline-six engine with torque and fuel efficiency is also available. All three engines are paired to either a 10-speed automatic transmission or rear- or all-wheel drive. The Suburban can also be customized with adaptive dampers and adjustable air suspension.

The latter permits the ride height of the large 2025 Chevy Suburban to be lowered or raised both automatically and manually. This allows for better passenger access, aerodynamics, and ground clearance.

The Z71 off-road specification features 20-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain rubber, as well as underbody skid plates and a two-speed transfer case for regular four-wheel drive. We’ll update this story with driving impressions and test results once we get a chance to test drive the 2025 Suburban.

6.2-liter V8 engine

The 2025 Chevy Suburban is powered by a 6.2-liter V8 engine that produces 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. This engine is paired with a ten-speed automatic transmission, which offers smooth and efficient shifting. The car’s engine features a dynamic fuel management system that can deactivate up to seven cylinders when they are not needed, improving fuel efficiency.

The car also features several other advanced technologies, including an active fuel management system that can switch between four and eight cylinders, a stop/start system that turns off the engine when the car is idling, and an automatic engine stop/start system that turns off the engine when the car comes to a stop.

2025 Chevrolet Suburban Platform

The 2025 Chevy Suburban, like all 12th-generation Suburbans, is built on the GM T1 chassis. The GMT-T1 or T1XX architecture is intended for pickup trucks and body-on-frame SUVs.

2025 Chevrolet Suburban MPG

While the EPA has not officially assessed the fuel economy of the 2025 Suburban, we anticipate little to no change from last year’s model. The diesel engine was the most efficient in the 2024 Suburban, with EPA ratings of 21 mpg city and 27 mpg highway for the rear-drive version. The regular 5.3-liter V-8 was expected to get 15 mpg in the city, one mile per gallon better than the optional 6.2-liter V-8, although both V-8s could get up to 20 mpg on the interstate.

2025 Chevrolet Suburban Storage & towing

The Tahoe is still a big 2025 Chevy Suburban that can seat up to eight people. It also has a cargo volume of up to 25.5 cubic feet when the third row is folded down. There is 72.6 cubic feet of open air to work with with the second row also down. The Suburban is even longer, with a load volume of up to 41.5 cubic feet when the third row is folded down.

The third row down provides a massive 93.8 cubic feet of free air to operate with. If you fold down every row (excluding the front two seats), you have a truly massive 144.7 cubic feet of space. It’s reasonable to say that the Suburban is extremely well-equipped for lugging goods, TVs, or even Christmas trees.

When properly equipped, the Suburban can tow up to 8,200 pounds with the base 5.3-liter V8. The 6.2-liter V8 engine has a towing capacity of 8,000 pounds, while the 3.0-liter diesel engine has a pulling capacity of 7,900 pounds. When properly loaded, the Tahoe’s base 5.3-liter V8 can tow up to 8,400 pounds. Both the 6.2-liter V8 and the 3.0-liter diesel engines can tow up to 8,200 pounds.

2025 Suburban Price

The 2025 Chevy Suburban is estimated to cost between $62,000 and $82,000, depending on trim and extras. We like the RST because of its sporty look, which includes blacked-out exterior trim and 22-inch wheels.

It also comes standard with a Bose audio, leather first and second-row seats, heated front seats with memory settings, and a power-operated liftgate. If we had to select between the three engines, we’d go with the diesel inline-six for its fuel efficiency and effortless muscle.

  • LS $62,000 (est)
  • LT $67,000 (est)
  • RST $70,000 (approximate)
  • Z71 $72,000 (est)
  • Premier $75,000 (estimated)
  • High Country $82,000 (estimated)
